Chances for UC's, NYU, Northwestern, and other colleges YOU recommend?

wow, no way. I LOVE columbia university but I thought it was completely out of my league because of my grades. I was going to apply to Columbia for graduate school. Does my transcript really stand a chance? Or am i wasting my time (I’ve heard of Columbia being notoriously hard to get into). Be honest, I can take it

You have a very good chance. Average SAT score for Columbia is 2100 while you have an outstanding 2200. You can check Collegeboard. If you have a medical, science, or engineering apply to SEAS. This is easier to get into then than columbia’s columbia college program. You have a GREAT SHOT at Cornell. You’ll definetly get in there. I say apply EARLY DECISION to Columbia University’s Columbia SEAS program. oNe of my friends had a 93.9 GPA another words 3.89 since a 93 is 3.8 according to the Princeton Review Scale and a 2180 SAT score in other words MATH 800 CRITICAL READING 700 WRITING 680 with 8 essay and applied regular decision and got in. You have a good shot at the SEAS if you apply EARLY. BUT You will have to take a CHEM SAT 2 or PHYSICS SAT and MATH 2 SAT 2 for SEAS. which you could study for and take in OCTOBER. or take you chances for Columbia’s Columbia College program whose requirements you have fullfilled.

You will get into Cornell. Easy school to get into compared to the other ivies

AND to make it more Clear.

If you apply to SEAS which is easier to get into the other program offered at Columbia

you will have to take Math level 2 SAT which has a HUGE curve and a Chem

SAT2 OR PHYSICS SAT 2-PHYSICS you can get 30 wrong still get 700-720 lol and get 17 wrong and get 800 lol.

Columbia SEAS has a 18.6% acceptance rate higher than Columbia Colleges 10% acceptance rate. And if you apply early Columbia SEAS has a 33% acceptance rate while Columbia College has an early acceptance rate of 22-24% whilst Early Decision.

hm…well unfortunately, I’m really more of a english/history type; to be honest, math and certain sciences(chem in particular) are my weak spots. I think it’s fair to say that I won’t apply for SEAS program. Unless I do take those SAT IIs(which I know I could do well if I bust my ass), apply for SEAS, get in, and then transfer into Columbia College. But that’s a bit convoluted.
lol. thanks for the advice anyway

Columbia/ Dartmouth will be tough but you might as well apply. I would try and increase your SAT 50-100 points to be truly competitive for these two.

so 2300+? Wow. That’s pretty tough. Anything else I could do? In particular I was wondering if you guys knew any prestigious writing/english/history competitions, since that’s where my strengths are. Any suggestions are, again, appreciated.

I’m just wondering, but would it have been a good idea to self-study some AP courses and take them so I could try for an AP scholarship thing?
Obviously it’s a little too late for me to do that, but I can pass on this invaluable information to my brother.

The biggest issue you’ll have with Columbia/ Dartmouth is your academic index - i.e. rank + SAT. A 1450 M+V would be okay if you were the top of your class, but you;re going to need the SAT to carry some extra weight. Hence a 2300 would do you a lot of good.

problem is my school doesn’t rank, so I won’t know what to put. But I’ll try to hit that 2300+. Might be a little tough
any info on that AP National Scholar, or w.e?

i see well you don’t need 2300 to get into columbia or dartmouth.
dartmouth has a 28% early decision rate whilst only a 15% regular decision acceptance rate. if you really wanna go to dartmouth apply early there.

also don’t retake your SAT unless you are sure it will the score will go up because after the 2200 mark has been reached, the SAT almost means nothing to colleges now and they tend to look more at your EC’s and GPA.

JOIN MANY ENGLISH/ History Competitions this SUMMER. do a lot of EC’s and you probably will get the AP national scholar or that other AP award, don’t remembr then name of that award.

If you apply EARLY to dartmouth you got a good shot with that 28% early decision acceptance rate.

Build up on your EC’s as much as possible this SUMMER. If you volunteered at other places, ask the coordinater of the volunteer program etc. to WRITE YOU RECOMMENDATION LATERS. Also get your teacher to write you reccomedtion letters.

correction i accidently typed WRITE YOU RECOMMENDATION *LATERS lol
i mean LETTERS. lol

I’m pretty sure that if I study, a 2300 will be attainable. As for recs, I’ve got a few teachers in mind that should give good recs.

My main problem is ith the English/History competitions. I just don’t know any really important or prestigious ones! I look online, and they’re filled with small fish. I know these will be of little importance to the colleges. Please, if anyone knows any english/history/humanities based competitions, TELL ME. I’M DESPERATE

well you could search on google or post a thread on college confidential to ask if there are any English/ History based competetions.

also apply EARLY to dartmouth, you have a good shot with that 2200 and if you could make that 2250+ it your shot would even be better.

wow a 2300+. good luck, that’s a tough score to get.

bump bump bump?
