Chances for UCSD

Hi,
My SAT score is around a 1440 (expected to improve) and my GPA is around a 4.15-4.2. What are my chances of getting accepted into UCSD with these scores. OH and also, I am an officer of two health clubs at my school. I also volunteer at a hospital and am trying out taekwondo for fun (green belt).

Well it depends on your major but I’d say they are pretty good. I knew some people who got in with 1100 SAT and a 3.6 GPA, no extracurriculars besides a sport. So I’m guessing those essays count.

You look competitive for UCSD but intended major will play a significant part in your chance for acceptance. UCSD admits into the University first and then into your major. If you are selecting a capped major, make sure you also select a non-capped major for your alternate choice or you could end up as Undeclared.

Best of luck.

I’m planning to major in bio

Biology is a capped major, so you will need to select an alternate non-capped major just in case. If you do get into UCSD as Undeclared, it can be difficult to switch into a capped major later, so something to consider.

Majors with capped status – for all students:
Biological Sciences
Economics
Mathematics
Physics
Public Health
Jacobs School of Engineering – all majors in these departments:
Bioengineering
Computer Science and Engineering
Electrical and Computer Engineering
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
NanoEngineering
Structural Engineering
