Hi, my name is Marjorie and I am a senior in high school who really wants to get into UGA. I have already sent my application and now I’m waiting on a decision. So, what I want to know is: What are my chances? Here’s a little more about me

I’m an African-American Female

I applied to major in Biology

My GPA is a 3.7 and i’m an honor graduate

My test scores suck! I don’t even want to mention my SAT score, but on my ACT I got a 21 (still bad)

I’m in a lot of clubs at school; key club, relay for life, and french club

Honors: Georgia’s Governor’s honors program in 2005, as well as A honor roll

I work part-time for about 12 hours a week.

I know that’s not Amazing, but I’m trying to keep hope, that I have at least somewhat of a chance. The only problem is keeping hope alive. Thanks for responding!

Hmm...your GPA is very good. Your SAT is a little low, but your participance in the Georgia Governor's honors program can help. Your ECs are ok. Affirmative action could just squeeze you in.

I'd agree with your assessment of having "somewhat of a chance."

Hang in there. Your chances are pretty good.

Be sure you have alternatives and if you don't get in - and I think you will - then you can always go to a different Univ Sys of Georgia institution and take advantage of the less rigorous transfer admissions thresholds.

Okay I am in the same position as marge. I am a UGA fan through and through and I got waitlisted the first of the month. I have no idea how it works.....do you think i'll get in?

Credentials:
GPA: 3.6
ACT: 28
Extracurriculars: International Thespian Society, Beta Club(Treasurer-12), Academic Team(Captain-12), Boys Discipleship Group leader, Yearbook(Senior Editor-11,12)

UPSIDES: Killer essays, great teacher rec, and those extracurriculars
DOWNSIDES: NO APs, only 5 Honors courses, I am a WHITE AFFLUENT MALE from Metro Atlanta(sad as that is...I could be a white affluent female from Metro Atlanta and that would be much worse)

DO I HAVE A CHANCE? My parents say yes, but they're my parents. I NEED SOME FEEDBACK!

Marge, in the UGA forum I'm pretty sure there was a URM who got waitlisted or rejected with better stats than you. Are you from the Metro-Atlanta area? Because that hurts your chances a bit. They get WAY too many applicants from there. It would be really helpfull if you told us your SAT score, but right now I'll say you've got a 40% chance or so.

Hey, I'm from Gwinnett County in a small little town called Dacula. Most of the people in my school either got in or didn't. I think i'm the only one that has been put on the waiting list.

I didn't know living in Metro-Atlanta could hurt your chances. And I really don't know how good anyone chances are on the waiting list. I think its kinda impossible to tell. I mean i have a lot of friends and family that tell me that I'll get in, but I just don't know. I guess we'll just have to be patient and wait for May 15 to roll along. Other than that, I'm registered for Georgia State University, but if I get into UGA, that's where i'll be going.

I had a 3.0 gpa and an 1120 on my sat and got in two years ago. I know the GPA is rather low, but I did go to a really good High school in Gwinnett. Overall it sounds like you are much smarter than me. Just write a good essay and have good extra curricular activities. I had a good list of stuff. Not a scattered list of activities but rather a good concentrated list that showed my comitment to music in High school.

Well, now i am officially a dawg. I found out yesterday that I got in from the waiting list. So, for anyone else who's still waiting to hear, I hope you guys get some good news.

On another note, i really don't know if this helped my chances or not, but a few weeks after I found out that i was on the waiting list, i called the office of Admission and talked to an actual admission person, and asked them to explain the whole waiting list ordeal to me. I think that phone call might have made them remember me, or maybe not. Like I said, I really don't know if it helped me out.
