I am a senior and planning to apply to UIUC. I am very interested in this school and was wondering if I should make this a reach school or if it is a legitimate option for me:

AP Human Geography - 4
AP U.S. History - 4
AP Physics B - 4

Planning to take:
AP Chemistry, AP Physics C , AP Calculus BC

Honors Classes:
Algebra, Precalculus

Extracurriculars:
NHS (2 years)
Badminton (2 years JV, 1 year Varsity)
Future Architects and Engineers Club (2 years, 1 Year as Secretary of Club)
Freshman Mentor Program - A program where upperclassmen are selected to mentor Freshman during their advisory period (1 year)
G.I.V.E - Volunteer Program (2 years)
Selected for State CAD Drafting Competition

School was named Top 100 Public Schools in the nation by Newsweek so it is a very competitive school.

Thank you very much for the feedback, now I know that I will have a good chance at UIUC. Is there a chance for me to get a scholarship there? I forgot to mention that I’m a semi-finalist for the NMSQT as well. Some more in depth information about the Electrical/Computer Engineering programs would be helpful too.

For the ECE major, you’ll probs get the $1200 Granger ECE engineering major scholarship. If you’re out of state, it’s possible but not likely that you’ll get the $12000 x4 ($48000) scholarship for good out of staters. My school didn’t rank but I wasn’t top 10% (like 11-12%) but I got a 2350 SAT so you might get it.

The GPA is what’s going to kill you on the scholarship end. For me, I had a 34 ACT and a 2190 SAT (nothing stellar by CC standards), but a 4.0 UW helped substantially. If you get your ACT up by two points, you should enter the realm of potential for big scholarships, especially if you can get into the Campus Honors Program, which offers $10k to OOS students for the first two years.

I would have to disagree though with supermarth64. The $1.2k first semester Grainger ECE Scholarship is offered to all incoming ECE students, and I’d consider you to be a safe match for the University Achievement scholarship. I have a friend who had a very average GPA, around 3.0-3.5, a 2000 SAT, and very little extracurricular activities who got this. Basically, it just serves as an in-state tuition waiver.

*I was a major scholarship recipient, total ECA paid for by UIUC scholarships.
