Hi I go to one of the best boarding schools in the nation and I am wondering what my chances are for some of these schools. It was a feeder into Princeton.

GPA: 3.65-3.7 unweighted
4.4 weighted
ACT: 30 (will retake)
SAT: 2050

School does not rank.
EC's:
FBLA 4 years
Young GOP (president)
Model UN (4 years)
Varsity Tennis (3 years JV 1 year)
Varsity Fencing (4 years)
JV Soccer 3 years

Summer internships in many different programs. Mostly finance and community service related.

I think I want to major in finance but that is not set in stone yet.

Colleges applying to:
NYU (stern)
Cornell
Brown (legacy)
Vanderbilt
UVA
UNC
U Michigan
Emory
Georgetown
William and Mary
Johns Hopkins

Also I was wondering if middle school grades count for College. I did not do very well in math in middle school, but excelled in it in High School.

Thank you and I will try to chance everyone back!

If I just looked at your gpa, I would say it will be a reach for quite of few of those. However, I don’t know about your school. If it’s really such a great school, it will boost your chances. You need to get scores up though. Good luck!

Ok Thank you so much for replying.

Try to push your GPA up a bit higher (I know it’s hard to do with the majority of high school behind you), and I’d retake the SAT as well as the ACT. It’s high but not quite high enough to be a very competitive applicant for the Ivies, at least.

Bump… Any more thoughts?

I think UNC and UVA are mathches. Cornell is still a reach but possible. I think you have great stats and the only concern for Ivies is your gpa(which isn’t bad at all weighted!). Retaking the act is a great idea, if you could get a 32 or above I think Brown becomes a match.

You’re good for everything however:
-your gpa for stern is a bit low (try to bump it to a 3.8/3.9 if you can)
Brown and cornell can also go either way because of your GPA (but your legacy at brown should get you in)

-johns hopkins could also be an issue if you declare for a science/medicinal program. Those are uber competitive there. I’d suggest going in undecided, unless you know for a fact that they review you again as an undecided applicant if you don’t get into the school you want.

Chance back if you can:

What is your class rank? It does not matter if you go to a Princeton feeder school if you are behind your peers. Your GPA is a bit low for top schools, and so are your ACT and SAT scores.
As of now, you would be a low reach to reach for most of the schools on the list. For instance, UMich has an admission average GPA of 3.85 and mid 50 ACT 29-33 (mid 50 SAT 2030-2250).

Class does not rank.

Bump? Any thoughts about william& mary and the other schools that have not been mentioned
