You didn’t provide a good deal of information about the classes you’ve taken. Do they make up the toughest course load available at your school? If so, I think you stand a good chance for both schools, especially USC.

^I would agree with Ronaldo, and would still say that both schools are a very high match (USC) or low reach (UCLA) based on your SAT score and (presumed lack of) course rigor. I would still be somewhat surprised if you didn’t get into USC, since I think they will give you a slightly more favorable bump due to your URM status. Your ECs, including your 20 hours of work each week, appears to be a solid commitment. Make sure you apply to some 2nd-tier UC’s (assuming you are a CA resident) that you would be happy attending-- just in case.

What is a URM status?

I’m applying to those two and UCR…I feel pretty confident about my chance at UCR. SO just wondering about those two.

URM = Under Represented Minority. Being African-American, you would be a URM at these schools.

they are feeding you BS my dear because your black. and jshain very much insulted you.

anyway,

you have a chance (like everyone). But you didnt give a lot of info.

as in what position you hold in these clubs? I hope you have some type if position instead of being in them just to be in them. you have to show commitment.

besides that good luck!

ilovemyego23, Please explain how I “very much insulted” the OP and how we are feeding the OP “BS”. Are you saying that being a URM is NOT a hook at many schools, including USC and UCLA?

Don’t worry, I don’t feel insulted. The more info the better!!

And I was an ASB Comissioner, class representatives in most clubs, President in College Club and 2 others.

How significantly are personal statements reviewed at USC and UCLA?

They are viewed with much weight, as with every school. It is a very important factor in your admissions sense no school really does interviews.

USC does “optional” interviews and I highly recommend that you do one if you can. If you are in the So Cal area of CA, you can do it on their campus. If you live elsewhere, they have around 20 different locations throughout the US. The word “optional” in many cases REALLY means recommended as far as interviews go, particularly if you reside in an area that has a regional interviewer. You can schedule an appointment on USC’s Undergrad Admissions website.
