Chances for USC with 3.65 UW GPA? (Also good scholarships?)

Hi, I'm an IB/AP student from Florida who sees USC as one of my dream schools. However, my GPA is a bit low.

I have a 3.65uw/4.65 weighted, and have taken three AP classes along with IB courses. I have taken the SAT and got a 2250, but look to raise that score. I also took the ACT with a 32 but will try to raise that score as well. I danced for 13 years in intermediate ballet, jazz, and contemporary, swam varsity for two years, took violin for four years, was in Model UN for three years, French Club for two, have volunteered in a local hospital for three years and shadowed, and plan to work under an artist this summer and intern at a local museum. I'm also very active with my youth group and have done several missions, and am very active with the fine arts association in my town. I lost my father freshman year and have battled certain mental disorders through school.

I plan to major in fine arts and get my pre-med prerequisites. Florida schools I'm looking at offer that and I'm sure I can do the same at USC.

I also am on social security benefits from my dad's passing, as that is my only form of income. My mother has no investments or assets and didn't file taxes. How are my chances for this school, and how can grants and scholarships going to help me if I get in?

Thank you!

Good luck!

I think you have some good chances- I’m looking to go there as well, and I’m sure that they will be accommodating with finances. I’ve heard that for a private school, they give really good packages to people with extenuating circumstances. Because of all of your ECs and your high ACT, you’ll be just fine there.

My son was recently accepted with grades and test scores similar to yours. When we attended the information session for admits, one of the counselors told the group that we were accepted because of our essays. It’s a given that outstanding grades and high test scores come with the territory. Afterward, I asked him what he meant since I assumed most students would take the time to write well thought out, meaningful essays. He told me that was not always the case. USC takes a holistic approach to the admission process. So when they say they want to get to know you, they really mean it. My suggestion would be to show yourself with a well written, honest essay. Good luck!
