I’m currently a junior in high school in-state and my rank is not too great so I’m unsure if I’ll make it into UT.
Here are my numbers:
GPA Unweighted: 3.38/ Weighted: 4.44
Rank: 219/946
SAT (New): 1400
ACT: 33
I have some extra-curriculars but I want to know what my chances are based on these numbers alone of getting into UT as well as any other respectable colleges for engineering.
Thanks in advance!
Why do you think you do not so great in school yet really great on standardized tests?
I didn’t really invest myself in my studies last year and it really killed me but I should be able to get that up to a 3.5 by senior year as I’m improving this year. As for standardized tests I fell like there is a lot to be desired for my SAT and I’m ok with my ACT score but I don’t consider them spectacular.
I don’t think UT-Austin looks at GPA, so you will have to depend on your class rank and ACT score.
They don’t look at GPA, but a higher GPA at his school should correlate with a higher class rank as well.
What major? Some majors would be much more realistic than others.
@TexasMom2017 right now I’m looking at engineering. Most likely biomedical.
My impression is that biomedical engr is very competitive so I’m guessing it would be a long shot with your class rank. Some other engr majors might be more likely. I’m no expert on engr, so hopefully others will weigh in. If biomed engr is what you really want to do, I would look around for some backup schools where you are more likely to get in. Good luck!
@TexasMom2017 thanks for the input!
Since you’re still a junior, make sure to really apply yourself this semester. This way, you can try to improve you rank (even if it’s just by a bit) and the improvement in your grades will show on your transcript. Your scores are wonderful, but if you wanted to improve them just to give them that extra edge, you still have time to retake them-especially if you’re looking into getting into engineering.
