Chances for UVA, UNC, Wake Forest, Vandy, George Washington U, etc.

I am looking at schools mainly in the lower Atlantic region (VA, NC, MD, SC, etc.). Just trying to get an idea for my chances at these top choices. Thanks for the help! Credentials are as follows:

GPA: 4.5 currently, will have about a 5.1 at graduation
Class Rank: 1/395 in one of the top high schools in the Northern half of Florida
ACT: 33 composite, 34 superscore (taken it twice), but on latest practice tests I’ve taken I’m making consistent composite 35’s.
SAT: 2100 but I took it probably too early, as I hadn’t gotten the English prep I needed. On latest practice tests, I’m consistently getting in the 2200-2300 range.
Essay: Will be very strong, has always been one of my strongest attributes.
Recommendations: I have made a personal relationship with every teacher/counselor/administrator I’ve had or worked with, not only in the classroom but also having to deal with them often for student government. They will be very strong.
AP: By graduation, I will have taken and passed: World History, Environmental Science, US History, English Literature, Government, Macroeconomics, English Language and Composition, and Psychology.
Ceritifications: Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Outlook), Autodesk Inventor, and will have much experience in Autocad.
EC’s: Will be Student Body President my senior year (previously served as class secretary).
Will be Mu Alpha Theta President my senior year (currently Secretary)
Will be National Honors Society President my senior year (currently Historian)
Have placed at the regional level in every math competition I’ve been in, and I’m trying to coax our sponsor to take us to state next year.
Member of the Varsity Golf Team
President and Founder of the ACT/SAT Prep Club (monthly meetings to go over tips, strategies, and take practice tests)
President and Founder of the Young Political Activists Club (monthly forum to discuss current events, attending political candidate rallies as a group, protesting at the courthouse, etc.)
Treasurer-Elect at the State level for FASC (Florida Association of Student Councils), so I will be State Treasurer my senior year.
Hosted the FASC state convention at my high school, where I organized all the speakers, entertainers, etc. and facilitated the budget for said conference (will be my senior year).
District Vice President for FASC
PTSA Vice President
Served on different district committees, including many with the school board where I was the only student there.

Your scores and GPA are on the higher average for Vandy and Wake Forest. Your EC’s are awesome but most likely average for those types of schools. Vandy and Wake Forest may be reaches (they are for everyone) but UNC, UVA, and GWU are absolutely matches.
Chance back?

UNC is reach for out of state cause they can only accept such a small percentage but your stats are really great so I think it is quite possible you could get in!

UNC is a reach for OOS.
Vandy is a reach for everyone.
The other ones are matches.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Good stuff

With a strong essay, you’ll have solid chances at these schools.

You have a really strong chance at admissions, especially with the class rank and extracurriculars you have. I think the defining factor will be your essay.

This is all very impressive, and I think you’d have a great shot at most of these schools. Just an FYI though, I don’t think many schools superscore the ACT.

I know UVA does, apart from that, I haven’t done a lot of research on that because I’m confident to get at least a 35 composite (one sitting). Would’ve at least gotten a 34 composite last time I took it, but I hadn’t gotten to drink my coffee that morning. I was pooped when time came for the science test to say the least. Science is usually one of my stronger tests, but I blanked out and got a 28 because I guessed on the last 10.

Idk how accurate this is, but you can check it out:

Vandy has gotten QUITE competitive especially for regular decision. I know several people with top notch qualifications who were turned down, and even more very qualified students who have been told that applying wouldn’t even be work their time!!! However, I really do think you have a great shot at all these schools. Good luck!

U have the same stats as me lol except for Leadership and ECs which what u have is more impressive than what I have

What a coincidence lol. Yeah, I got kind of lucky with some of them. The state treasurer, for instance, was just the perk that came with winning the bid for hosting state (and I was picked for being the most involved sophomore). The other leadership positions in clubs had a lot to do with knowing teachers on the personal level and networking every day. I’m always meeting and talking with a new freshman, sophomore and junior every day. It’s kind of instinct because I know that it will be useful come time to run for SGA each year.

Looks like that for UVA, if you don’t have a perfect GPA and SAT or ACT combination, there is still a big chance they will reject you. But all the wonderful EC’s and the class rank will probably work in your favor. UVA is still a reach. UNC is a high match. Wake forest is a Match/ high match. Vandy is definitely a reach. GWU is a match/ high match

you should really take your ACT again and up your score, I wouldn’t send your SAT scores, you are clearly scoring better on ACT

@veggiebunny We went to visit UVA over spring break, and we took a long tour and whatnot. We talked to the admissions counselor at the end, and she basically told me that I was a shoo in to get accepted. Having a 4.0 with the hardest classes possible and a 33 on the ACT in my second semester as a sophomore, she thought there was almost no possible way I wouldn’t get accepted. She also said that I should definitely look into the Jefferson Scholars, as I was the ideal student for that. This is only UVA though, as I didn’t ask this question anywhere else. This thread was mainly for the others, and I appreciate the comment.

And the GPA and ACT weren’t the only things we mentioned to her. We included some of the EC’s, but she didn’t know about the state treasurer position. I’m trying to say that she wasn’t just saying I was almost a guarantee to make me feel better; she was genuine about it.

Vandy - Reach (better chance if you can raise to 34 or 35)
UVA/UNC - Reach (only because you are out of state)
Wake - In
GWU - In

UVA and UNC are reaches for OOS
