Chances for UVA with double legacy out of state?

Both my parents went to UVA, so I am considered a double legacy. Is this any more helpful than just single legacy? And does this this put me in the in-state "pile", despite being from Pennsylvania?

Anyway, my credentials in my senior year, and I'm applying to the engineering school:

4.75/5.00 GPA
7 AP Classes including this year (BC Calculus, English Language, and Physics C: Mechanics last year, Government, Statistics, Physics E&M, and English Literature this year)
2190 SAT (660 CR, 790 M, 740 W) with pending October results
Subject Tests: Math 2 (800), Chemistry (680), is that one worth sending?
3 Years Varsity Swimming (Captain and Coach's Award)
NHS (Vice President)
AP Scholar
Stock Club
Band/Orchestra, Pep Band, Pit Orchestra
Class Rank N/A, I come from a rigorous high school that offers pretty much everything but they don't do class rank
Work as a lifeguard and swim lesson instructor over the summer

It helps, and a double legacy definitely helps more than a single. It doesn’t put you in the in-state pile, because you aren’t in-state. You’ll be a out-of-state applicant that has a significant advantage.

With your stats, I think you’re a low reach (maybe a match with legacy), and that’s only because you don’t have that many ECs. It seems you are in Band, NHS, and Stock Club. You also have a summer job. I think if you had more ECs relating to your major you’d be in for sure.

Get some kickass letter of recommendations and a good essay and I think you’re set!

Good luck!

PS: I don’t know if I’d send the chem SAT, if it was a 700+ I would definitely send it. It’s up to you. I’d be on the fence.

You have great chances with that GPA, SAT, and double legacy.
Easily a match

Thanks for your inputs! @hobbithopeful, I also did Physics Olympics the last two years. Not a huge commitment but an activity pertaining to my major like you said.

You’re in the same boat as me; I’m interested a bit in attending UVA, but if you check its admissions information, you’ll see that the school is roughly 70% in-state Virginians – meaning that out-of-staters would have a better chance of getting into several Ivy League schools than UVA (just from a percentage standpoint).

Of course, unlike me, you’ve got the nice hook of being a double legacy. On top of that, the test scores are high enough (I’ll second the motion to act like the Chem one never happened, though, because it’s not consistent with the rest of your record), the GPA’s good, and you’ve got plenty of extracurriculars.

Overall, I would have to say your chances of getting in are pretty high. Good luck!

Thanks, JohnSmith2014, best of luck to you too. Anyone else?

Any more thoughts?

Contact Legacy Services at UVA’s Alumni Hall.

Mancini, you will be considered with in-state students, not out of state- thats how UVA handles legacies. Assuming you get in- and I think you look good for admission- you will then be considered OOS for tuition purposes I agree that you should look at the alumni liaison program through Alumni Hall…you will confirm that you’re assessed with the in- state crowd if nothing else. Good luck!
