I feel like Wharton would be a good fit for me and my grades are pretty good and I have solid test scores. I would really like to go to Penn and be part of their athletics. I wanted an outside opinion on what you guys think my chances are.

I will elaborate. I am a student athlete, hoping to get recruited. I’m playing at plenty of tournaments and such this summer and hope to catch the eyes of some coaches.

Why Wharton? It’s a business school and I feel like I have a good fit for business. I’ve been involved in business one way or another all my life. I took a Business class with the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship @ Goldman Sachs, participated in business competitions, wrote my own business plan and proceeded to put that business plan into action by creating my own non-profit youth sports program. I work and coach this program and spend large quantities of time devoted towards the program.

If i can generate some interest from the UPenn coach, I would definitely be applying ED to penn.

I’m a pretty strong student and I’m on the Honor’s math track. I plan on taking AP Comp Sci and AP Calc next year.

What other information would help you guys with chancing me?

Im not going to get recruited but I will have a great essay and my math ACT is 34 and my SAT math 740 and I know math is more important for wharton. Would that help or is that still not great enough to oust the 530?

“SAT Verbal: 720
SAT Math: 800
SAT Writing: 670
SAT Total: 2190/2400 , 1520/1600
SAT II: BIO : 710 US HIST : 700
ACT: 28 (didn’t really try)”

That will not help get you accepted. 28? I have to say that is really really really low, the lowest ACT score in UMich’s middle 50% is a 28 and that is the lowest. Sorry but you don’t really have a chance with your ACT. Also SAT isn’t that stellar if you want competition with the UPenn Wharton applications. A lot of good students have SAT II–Math II scores of 800, and SAT I scores of higher than 700.

I wasn’t planning on using the ACT. I only took the ACT because it was required of me. I went into the test with no preparation nor intent on using it.

And my SAT scores aren’t terrible. Sure they could be better, but I doubt the writing is the most important thing and m other 2 scores were above 700. I’ll be taking the Math II during Senior year since I didn’t want to take 3 SAT 2’s in a single sitting.

If Wharton looks at the CR+Math, then your in the competitive range. It’s good that your not sending in your ACT.

However I do have a question and I might be wrong on this but: Don’t recruited athletes go to UPenn CAS? Because I know for other schools, they just admit them into their CAS and usually not the more competitive ones like engineering and business.

I will suggest you to take SAT II Math if you have enough time - Wharton (as any other business school will do) will flip right to your Math scores especially. While Biology and USHistory are important, I will think that the school might be wondering why you didn’t take the Math II test or whether your score is so low that you choose not to submit them.

Second the notion that math is important for wharton. You don’t have to be imo level but you should be proficient enough that its one of your fairly strong suits. One of my friends asked penn’s admissions staff during an info session whether it was acceptable to take IB SL math and apply to Wharton. There was a rather awkward silence before the guy proceeded to say “take HL if you can”.

National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship…at goldman sachs?
own business plan into action
and ur an athlete
that sounds prty impressive, especially the goldman sachs part …

Yeah, the program I started runs in the summer, and teaches kids to play. I actually spend a lot of time on it. I guess my EC’s don’t seem loaded, but that’s because I spend so much time on each one.

Also, the Math II I plan on taking in the fall. I should do well on them. I just didn’t feel I’ld perform well if I had taken 3 in one sitting.

Also, I’ve done some thinking and feel that Wharton wouldn’t be that a big deal for me, whether or not I go. Of course, I’ld still be very happy going there, but even CAS at UPenn would satisfy me. How would my chances be for a school like CAS or any of the other colleges at Penn?

For what it’s worth, a majority of student athletes I know were recruited to Wharton, not CAS! Coaches dangle Wharton as an incentive to get athletes to come here.
