The asian thing doesn’t matter, most colleges don’t see it as an affirmative action minority anyway.

Anyway, Good luck, you’ve got some nice stats and ECs. I’m an LD debater, too, altho winning in Cali would probably be significantly harder than in Wisco.

for that one meanie who called me a ■■■■■… i said i was going to STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS not that i won…
in my state if u win state qualifier u go to state championships (i know the
name is misleading but its not my fault).

I did fairly well at state but i did not win. yeah. just to clear things up.

i hope being asian doesn’t screw me over.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE COMMENTS! :)

really! this is my pre-AP power bar. LOL

as for me being real, yeah i am,
my secret: i dont sleep much, yeah :(

Thanks for dreamsofivy who said I will get into Stanford. I wish u are right, but alas I don’t have a 4.0 unweighted so my chances are pretty crappy.

LD rocks! I made the state championships…in NC!!! I can’t go because of Science Olympiad in different city at same time !!! BTW, I don’t think that it’s too hard to qualify, but I’m not complaining (maybe different system)! ! Good luck wherever you want to go!

I agree with bluewatermelon. The nonprofit could definitely be a hook and a potential direction to take when writing your essay. If possible, you could try tying some of your interests and ECs with that nonprofit if applicable.

i stand corrected
sorry for dissing your LD accomplishment…
i’m a PFer myself, and i don’t like forensics to have its name sullied.
but if you legit qualified-congrats…
will you be at Nats?

How did you take those APs freshmen and sophomore year? At my school we are required to take 4 full year science courses and most aren’t offered over the summer?

It’s near impossible to maintain all those e.c.'s while keeping a high level interest/dedication to them. I suggest limiting down to 5-6 that you are truly passionate about and believe will best represent you and stick to those.

Dreamsofivy needs to read the common data sets for HYPS. This candidate only reaches those school’s 75th percentile in one SAT category. His/her percentage chances are so far off the mark I would not know where to begin. Chances for an unhooked Asian candidate at these schools is probably under 3% and most applying look this good.

Most unhooked candidates accepted have scores above the 75th percentile across the board at these schools. They don’t break down the stats far enough for us to know how many, but we do know that more than a quarter of every class has an 800 in each SAT section.

Even Brown rejects 70% of those getting 800 in each category! So please read an educate yourself!

That said, the OP is a reasonable candidate at any college, but nowhere near a shoo in for HYPS by a long shot. The Asian pool is about as competitive as it gets and it will take a stellar application and a lot of luck to get into one or more of these schools. Below that, chances get better, but with Dartmouth and Brown getting close to the 10% accepted mark, getting into mid level ivies is getting almost as elusive.

Hope I didn’t disappoint north_face, though I didn’t go into the hooked student facts because everyone here should understand that by now:)

rocket6louise: that’s cool. Good luck in PF! well, in my league we have State Quals for State and a separate national quals for nationals. Even if person x won state they couldn’t go to nationals unless they qualed for nationals in the qualifier (its a bit weird). I won’t b at nationals. I actually didnt even go to the qualifier as I was sick. Sadly, even if i had gone I prolly wouldn’t have qualed. are u gonna b @ natl? if so, good luck.

SchsKid1: Well my school doesn’t have Honors Chem or Honors Physics so we either
have to take AP or regular. Most kids jump off the cliff and take APs. :/

As for AP Bio, I took a CTY course in 8th grade summer for Fast-paced High School BIo.

NWdivisionCHAMPS: yes, i definitely understand. Thanks for the advice!

REGARDING my organization:
I probably will not mention my organization in my apps (which is BTW regarding a tennis program for URMs and at-risk kids) unless I’ve raised my money goal which is 20,000 bucks. I don’t just want to look like a padder and I want the admissions people to see that I care about what I do (in this case tennis and helping other teens)

But my organization involves a bunch of high school students conducting peer mentoring and giving tennis lessons…and working on team-bonding, sportsmanship, etc.

hahah…i love NFLs for that!!!
my PF partner and i took second in the state, and the team we lost to didn’t qualify for nats, but my partner and i did…
all weird…

keep on debating!! alot of lesser colleges will give you money to debate with them

to be honest, i think the organization is the most interesting and unique aspect about the OP, even IF she has not raised that much money. what do others think?

Either the organization or her novel, because I think both of those make her uique. I do have to say that the OP has solid Ecs, but I surmise that these look like strong passions, along with debate, possibly (depends on how much you like it- it’s like stressful and sweet at the same time!). Hope that this helps! :)

If the novel is being published by a major publisher it makes her fairly unique (hardly unusual in the elite college world though). If not, it won’t help.

I like your stats and hopefully, we’ll all be at nationals doing LD, for you see I do LD as well, but this is my first year doing it and where I come from (Oregon), the competition is fierce in terms of LD to nationals. I couldn’t qual in my own region to state, didn’t do LD but instead, radio, which I’ve never done. As for you colleges…You’ll be fine, speech and debate is a pretty powerful EC and yeah, some schools do give money for debating, Georgetown is one of the best I’ve heard to give money. Good luck to you!
