I’m interested in majoring in Political Science, International Relations, or Sociology. Chance me for the following schools? You don’t have to do all of them. Also, please feel free to recommend other schools that might be a good fit for me. Thank you so much!

Yale (would apply ED)
MIT (It has a great political science department)
Columbia
University of Chicago
Northwestern
Berkley
WUSTL
Georgetown
Johns Hopkins
Duke
Barnard
NYU
University of Michigan-- Ann Arbor
University of Illinois (safety I think)
American University (safety I think)

I’d say 50,5.Your EC’s are great. You might need a higher ACT score for Yale and Northwestern.

50-50*

Thanks! I will definitely put some work into bringing that ACT score up this summer.

It’s really impressive that you’ve started thinking about college this early. That being said, you have a lot of room for improvement. Definitely try to focus on your grades the next year to raise your GPA and visit some of these colleges so that you don’t end up applying to all of these. Your ECs show your passion for political science and international relations which is very important. Be sure to keep this up.
Yale: low reach if ED
MIT: high reach
Columbia: mid reach
University of Chicago: mid reach
Northwestern: high match
Berkley: high match
WUSTL: high match
Georgetown: match
Johns Hopkins: match
Duke: low reach
Barnard: match
NYU: match
University of Michigan-- Ann Arbor: high match
University of Illinois: safety
American University: safety

Thanks! Because my course load is pretty rigorous for next year, I’ll try to get a head start on some of the material over the summer so that I can do better during the school year.

That would be a good idea. Also, you have to understand that you don’t have much of a hook in your application. You need to present yourself in your essays as a strong candidate that will prosper in any environment.

Does anyone else have any advice?
