Hi so what do you know about the chances for UP for NJ Residents? 3.65 GPA 680 reading, 600 math, 630 writing. Libral Arts Major. have not heard yet, sent in application 10/21. very stressful.

Is the GPA weighted?

yes its weighted.

Student Body and Admissions Statistics - Penn State Undergraduate Admissions

Great chance. You got in in the first round so good for you. Applications are up 6% for Aug 1 to Nov 30 w/ a 14% increase in OOS applications.

but from what I figure they only take 2,000 out of state boys for University Park, is that true or how many do they admit?

C. Freshman Admission

Heres the common data set from last year. They are looking for the same # of students this year. So if they accept 50 % of kids who apply thats about 10,000 guys. His numbers are great so I don't think he will have a problem especially w/ early application. I wouldn't sweat it at all.

I don't believe they separate out OOS apps. (see C6)

Thanks, do you know why it would be taking so long for him to hear? most of his friends have gotten their acceptance letters already. Some applied after he did and in the same major. Again he applied on 10/21. His guidance dept called before Thanksgiving and they said they had everything for him.

I would ask the HS GC if they sent the weighted average, unweighted average or both.

the reason his friends might have already gotten in is because they started to accept all of the people with extremely high gpa's that were pretty much shoe-ins. then, they started doing rejections/deferrals to other campuses. since his gpa is decent, but not great, thats why its taking so long. people in that range of gpa havent heard back yet. but seriously, he should get in :) you'll know by the end of the month!

Thanks, he said his unweighted GPA is probably 3.6 or 3.56+ . do you know if you pick the summer session as a option and if your going to get in do they offer that automatically? he would like to go for the six weeks in the summer. do they offer that to some kids who might not otherwise get accepted to UP but they will then accept them for the summer and the UP for for the fall? ( if that makes sense)

I would like to know the answer to what mom17 asked as well

If your son applied as this:
Main Campus
Summer
( as in - didnt select a satellite campus )
then he would probably get into summer if he didn't get into main.

However, on my application, I applied:
Main Campus
Altoona
Summer
(although I would prefer summer, I was offered admission to Altoona.) I think they are more willing to accept to satellite campuses over summer, but if your S didn't apply for a satellite campus they will probably consider him heavily for summer.

I am being reconsidered for summer or fall right now, though. But I hope this helped :)

thanks well you had to pick a second choice so he picked Lehigh Valley as the second choice-- only because its the only other campus with the bike team ( but he will not go there) and then there was the summer session as a option too, but it was not give as a second option only a place on the app. to say if you would consider summer.

It appears they offer summer to the kids they think need the boost and then fall into main. I have no real evidence of this though, just a few years reading around here. Did you see how many kids were waitlisted and eventually offered admission on the freshman admission charts last year. Almost all of them. I just don't think you have to worry because his #'s are great and it's still early.

Hmm .. it's tough to say. I guess you'll just have to wait it out :( But seriously, I think your S has a good chance.

Thanks sax and quartknee49. I'll let you know when he finds out. BTW what other schools are you applying to? he is applying to AU, Franklin & Marshall, Gettysbury, U OF Colorado, and he got into Rutgers and Tulane, but again does not want those schools! :) I guess PSU really has the attraction.

I have already heard back from Utampa (32k scholarship) and WVU (8k scholarship .. wooo? Not enough to make me even consider). I didn't get into pitt, and I'm waiting on JMU and UDel for decisions. Oh and of course PSU ! :)

ahh good, luck. I think everyone is in the same boat. no news today either on his status. :(

this no news stuff is killing me!!!!
