I’m a senior with a 4.03 GPA with an 1150 on the new SAT. I applied to the following schools and I kinda wanna know my chances getting in.
Binghamton University (got deferred already)
TCNJ
UAlbany
West Chester University
UMass Amherst

For TCNJ, your SAT is a tiny, tiny bit below average (50 points or so) but that’s no biggie. Your GPA is solid so you have a pretty good shot.
For UAlbany, your SAT is right on average accepted and your GPA is solid. You have a good shot for that.
For WCU, your SAT is a solid 100 points above average and you have a great GPA, so I’d say that you’ve got a good shot for that.
Unfortunately, for Amherst, your SAT is a solid 200 points below the 25th percentile and 300 points below their average. However, your GPA is great and in the upper percentiles of what they accept. For Amherst, it is down to where you are from, whether you are a minority, and what extracurriculars you have. If you have solid extracurriculars, you probably have a 50/50 shot, otherwise, it may be a reach.
Overall, you have a great shot at most of these schools, and I can say with confidence that you will certainly be accepted to at least two of them!!
I think billnye is confusing Amherst College with UMass Amherst
TCNJ is a good match to reach, shouldn’t be too hard to get in. U Albany is a match. West Chester is a safety and U Mass Amherst is a reach. I am guessing you living in PA? West Chester wouldn’t normally be a school people OOS would look at. I recommend applying to Penn State because that seems like what you are looking for. Penn state might defer you to a branch campus, but you can transfer and it is better than West Chester. If you apply the first week and to Division of Undergraduate Studies you have a good chance of getting in to Penn State.
@billnyethesciguy weird that you say Umass my biggest reach because I’d always though TCNJ was a better school and harder to get into. I’m also wondering about Binghamton and if they accept a lot of kids after being deferred because I know that their yield is fairly low.
@nocontest No, I live in NJ. I just like West Chester because of the size and setting, but it is a safety for me. Penn state is good but it is way too expensive for me so I can’t really consider it.
Are you applying to Rutgers? They are a safety for most NJ kids just in case.
all depends on what school you are trying to get into. ex: TCNJ much harder to get into finance program than umass.
Also has better results. good luck
