Chances, High SAT low GPA

<p>hey guys im a senior and im applying to:</p>

<p>University of Southern California
Tulane University
Rice University
Washington University in St. Louis
University of California Berkeley
Carnegie Mellon
University of Chicago</p>

<p>here are my stats</p>

<p>SAT-
2250
Math 770
Critical Reading 770
Writing 710</p>

<p>GPA-
Unweighted 3.49
Weighted 3.57</p>

<p>its low because i didn't really try in 9th and 10th grade and made a few C's, my junior year i had straight As though</p>

<p>Extracurriculars- pretty average i guess, i dont hold any leadership positions
Varsity Wrestling- only 12th grade
Science Club- 11, 12
Future Business Leaders of America- 10, 11, 12
Volunteered at a place where I tutored and mentored elementary students in 11th grade, roughly 2 hours a week for 30 weeks or so</p>

<p>My only award is National AP Scholar, my recommendations from my teachers are very good, and my essays are just average, writing isnt my strong point.</p>

<p>not really sure if i have a decent chance at most of these schools, my GPA really kills it. thanks</p>

<p>You need outstanding essays. Don’t just decide they’re going to be average, because that’s your hope that any school will look past the GPA. Find a teacher, a family friend, or even a peer who can help you. If you’re by chance well off, ask your parents to hire a private counselor to help.</p>

<p>You have a pretty good shot at Tulane, I think. The others are tougher for sure. Great essays will help, that is true. If you do come up with a great essay/personal statement, it will be interesting to see which ones can see past the lower GPA (I don’t say low because in the grand scheme of things it isn’t that bad. Only on CC, lol) and gives you a shot. Come back to this thread and post the results for each school, if you think about it.</p>
