chances in harvard? please say yes!

Hey guys!!! whats popping? just wanted to know what my chances are to get into havard college... ok so here it goes..

SAT - CR: 640 M:690 W:640 ACT: 27
AP's - Chem: 4 Bio: 5 US - 3 (oopsie) Physics: 4
RANK (keep in mind I'm in the 10th highest ranked school) 33/632
GPA: 98.22 Weighted: 117.8

EC's - avid piano player, captain of fencing team, polo captain as well, editor and chief of school newspaper, equestrian club, president of the debate team/president of national honor society/treasurer of student government. Accomplished Ballet dancer.

Scholar Athlete, Presidential Award, 500+ hours of community service for my local hospital, researched at Stony Brook University.

I am Hispanic, so do u think this will help my chances?

please respond, apps are due so soon!

yours truly, lovefrogs

Everything seems in order (then again, I'm not an admissions officer), save your test scores.

They seem a little low for the Ivy league, and I think that only because they're lower than published averages. Your EC's are nice (Looks like you go to a wealthy highschool too.....sigh), and the ballet shows a strong commitment.

I think Hispanics are under represented (be happy, some of us are over represented minorities)

I think the only real deviation from an ideal application are your test scores. Considering what other things you have, I'd say try anyways, but don't hold your breath.

i think u have a chance. like the guy above said, probably up the scores if you have time and don't report the 3 in u.s. history. it's cool that you do fencing, polo, and ballet - very preppy (jk of course its very unique). and of course, being hispanic will help your chances but if they think you can't handle the work, you won't get in. however, your gpa attests to your academic level.

-noit

^ You will definitely have to get those test scores up.

Find a reason to highlight your ballet experience and you will have a good chance at admission if Harvard sees that this aspect of your application makes you stand out. In addition, your rec letters are critical. Who likes you, how much do they like you and what can they write about you to make you stand out?

You have a good chance since you are URM... higher standardized tests scores would help (you are in the same boat as me... I have 2090 SAT scores but very good AP scores..)

WAT!!!! How do you have a 98.22 UW, and still only be top 40??? That's crazy. Anyway, at our school, the admins force everyone not to inflate grades, so the valed. only graduates with like a 95/96 average; the saludatorian is around a 93/94, and 3-5 is somewhere from 90-92. (And around 20 of our seniors go to Ivies every year.)

dont see it; nothing makes you stand out

Yeah, you're hispanic - that's a factor. If you come from somewhat of a disadvantaged background (idk), make sure to state that - they don't demand 2200+'s from guys who come from backgrounds with little english writing/reading.

As for the rest, you're good. But you need to make sure that they remember you :) Write good essays and short answers.

Coming from a wealthy school, you would be expected to have great SAT scores. Since there are alot of Hispanics (especially from California and New York) with top SATs, it will be a reach for you.

Are you good enough to be recruited for fencing? Do you have state or regional level success in polo or wide exposure in ballet? If so, these ECs might help.

I think you need to talk to your GC about how much being a Hispanic is likely to help you given your high school's acceptance history. I think your scores look a bit low, but your GC will have a much better feel for what's possible than we do.

how good is your fencing? i personally think that makes you stand out more than ballet...and harvard is pretty serious about its fencing.

OK since you asked us to: YES!!!!!

But seriously it will depend on the other details like essays, recommendations, and the specific details about how interesting and accomplished your extracurriculars are.

If you bring your ACT up to ~31+ I'd say you're in.
