I believe the OP is below the median GPA and SAT for Rollins and FSU. For IU and S. Carolina, there are additional OOS considerations. OTOH, if the OP has a lot of APs, then his weighted GPA might put him in range..hence my question.

It would also be interesting to know his class rank. I think FSU has nearly 50% of its admits in the top 10% now. With the information provided, I just don't see Rollins/FSU/IU/S. Carolina as obvious "ins".

Also in response to the AP system, my school is a school outside of U.S and it does not have any AP's. We are forced to take 4 units of all major classes and also we take classes such as psychology and sociology and classes that are considered as AP in most schools. Officialyy we dont have an AP system in our school.

Not to rain on your parade, but I would suggest that FSU is a bit of a reach based on this data from their website. This data is somewhat lower than earlier periods due to the USNWR hit (64 to 111) FSU took when President Wetherell was hired:

Statistics for freshmen who applied to FSU for fall 2005

* The range that the middle 50% of the 2005 freshmen class scored on the SAT was 1110-1260
* The middle 50% for the ACT was 24-28

High School Statistics

* High School GPA for the middle 50% of incoming freshmen was 3.4-4.0
* FSU received class rank data from 85% of those who enrolled
* Of these, 99% ranked in the top 50%, 86% ranked in the top 25%, and 47% ranked in the top 10% of their high school class

No, FSU is not a "super reach". If FSU weights your "AP-like" classes, your GPA might be within range. You should apply and see what happens. I just think you should add more "match/safety" schools to your application list.

I would also suggest you re-take the SAT and/or ACT after a prep course.

FSU, like UF, takes the best combination of several scores to use for acceptance consideration. Virtually all kids do this to get the best presentation of their testing. The universities don't seem to mind as it pumps up the scores of freshmen applicants (not sure this is a good thing, but with everyone being so ratings focused these days, I suppose they figure they have to do it to compete).

Good test scores are not the only factor, though. They will also weigh the difficulty of your classes and reward those who take challenging course work. AP classes are very good to take; most kids have at least 3 or more (more is better). In addition, they also really look at your extra-curricular activities. Lots of superficial fluff activities will not work to your advantage. I heard that the essays are a tie-breaker, if needed.

Also consider applying for summer or other non-Fall semesters. There can be less competition for admission during these periods.

It's my understanding FSU drops all elective or non-academic course work in calculating an applicant's GPA. Therefore, it is useless to pad a GPA with easy courses. They'll see right through it - and they see thousands upon thousands of kids' records every admission cycle.

ok my school once again does not offer AP, however we graduate with 32 units/credits mostly from hardocre subjects. That does look good, or atleast i think it does.

I got a few questions though. Would USF and UCF be good Safety/match schools? not sure bout Rollins but mayby Rollins.

Also why is Indiana a reach. They have an 83% acceptance rate and I have seen kids in these forums getting in with g.p.a's of 2.7-2.9. I have a 3.0. I just dont get why Indiana is a reach.

Hey wat about U CONN is that a possible school? i know im Out of State but its a school i have always considered on the side. not sure how hard it would be for me to get in there

When you apply from out-of-state, the schools - usually publicly-funded (this means with taxpayer dollars of that state) schools, generally hold kids to higher standards to ensure that home-state kids get a first shot at access. Private schools are usually less concerned with where the kids come from as they are not generally funded with tax dollars.

Remember that what you read on this board is not Gospel. It (the opinions you get) frequently is biased towards or against schools for whatever reason the writer has; and many times is just plain wrong.

Do your own research - contact the schools: write to them, call them, visit them or email them and find out the real scoop. Admissions standards can vary greatly from year to year and unique qualities in students may change a lot of things. Only the schools themselves can tell you how you rate to them. You can get an idea from published data, but frequently it is old, inaccurate or just plain sales hype. Remember that the schools are also selling themselves to students, too.

When you try to pick schools, look for what program area interests you. Make sure the school has what you want. In Florida, not all state universities have the same programs. Smaller schools like UWF, FGCU, UNF or New College may also fit. Go and search all the web sites and dig into what the schools do best. For example, FSU, UF and USF are very focused on graduate-level research. Others are more concerned with undergraduate programs. Try and see what works for you.

Youd get in. I visited it a month ago. LOVED it. Gorgeous school. Gorgeous buildings. Only problem...Location! Middle O' Nowhere. I feel like if i went there i'd drink like crazy.

Ok well thanks but hey i did wat parentholes told me to do, research. I did, i did research on FSU specifically. Now on their web page it says that generally they admit students who present at least a B+ average and an 1100 SAT. I was quite appaled by this because i have a B and well that would mean i probably dont stand a chance. so i emailed FSU and told them since i dont have a B+ but i do meet the 1100, what would happen? Should i even apply? All they did was say the following; Hi thanks for your interest in FSU" and they copy pasted the information above. It was of no help what so ever. but if i dont have that B+ am i officially screwed?

I should tell you that a lot of people who are saying IU is a reach because of business don't know what they're talking about. You apply to the general university, they don't even look at your major in your undergraduate application. Then after a year, you apply to the business school. Only 5% of all applicants get into the business school freshman year.

It's still a reach for you, but because of your below average GPA for IU. But your intended major has nothing to do with it. You may be able to get in though, can't hurt in applying, especially if you get a fee waiver.

You're not getting into Miami. Admissions has gotten extremely competitive over the years, and a 3.0 and a 1700 won't get you in unless you have an extreme hook (athlete, URM, extraordinary EC, etc.), which I don't see.

Ok well thanks for your input. I was really not aware that Indiana GPA was that high as 83 % of the applicants are admitted however i see that high admit rate has nothing to do with that.

also i hear U CONN is a math and i should be able to get in.

I wanted everybdy to Help me modify my list of schools(add a few or mayby take out a few). Im lookin to have a fair amount of reaches, lot of matches and a fair amount of safties. My stats are at the begginng of this thread(page 1) so plz help me out.
