UW: 3.67 W: 4.17 (Should be a 4.23 after summer class I took gets approved) will graduate with 11 AP Classes on transcript.
ACT: 31 ( superscores to a 34) 10 on the essay
SAT: 1350 (superscores to 1475)
Strong EC’s with work experience in an office
Planning on applying ED to babson college.
Reason my GPA is so low is because I bombed freshman year (thats why im hoping to luck out with the UC’s if I get rejected or deffered from Babson) first semester and got all B’s an A and a C. I moved half way across the country so I will note that in my letter to admissions, as in my second semester freshman year I went from terrible grades to all A’s and one B.
AP classes i took where:
AP World History
AP Comp Lang
AP Comp Sci
AP Environmental
AP Psychology
AP European History
AP US Government
AP Macro
AP Calc AB
AP US History
AP Scores-
WHAP- 3
Comp Lang- 4
Comp Sci- 5
Environmental- 3
Psych- 4
Euro- 4
Government- 3
Macro- 3
Calc AB - 5
APUSH- 5
Colleges I am applying to:
UCSD
Babson College (applying ED here)
Bentley University
USC
NYU
Cal Poly SLO
University of Texas- Austin
UNC- Chapel Hill
Boston University
Georgia Tech
BTW:
UC GPA is a
3.75 UW
4.25 W
4.00 Capped
Intended Major is Business Administration and Mangement
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:
UCB: 12%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 39%
UCSB: 49%
UCD: 52%
UCI: 57%
UCSC: 83%
UCR: 90%
UCM: 92%
UCSD does not have Business Admin so are you applying as an Econ major or Management Science?
SLO: Match
UCSD: High Match
USC: High Match-Low Reach
Also applied to UCSB and UCI forgot to mention those.
Econ for UCSD and any UC’s that do not have Business Admin.
Econ for UCSD and any UC’s that do not have Business Admin.
also do you know about the other colleges or just the cali schools? My dream schools are Babson and UT Austin and I would be applying to Babson ED if it is a match for me.
UCSB: High Match for Econ
UCI: HIgh Match since Bus Admin has an 19% acceptance rate with average GPA of 4.15.
Only familiar with the California schools.
would chances be any better if i list management science as my intended major?
Well thats sort of a relief for me as Cal Poly is my number one choice after Babson, NYU and UT Austin
Since UCSD’s Econ major is capped, you should put down Management Science as an alternate. If you are not selected for Econ, you will have Management Science as your backup. You just do not want to get accepted into UCSD as Undeclared since switching into Econ later could be problematic.
So do you think I will have a pretty good chance at Cal Poly and UCSD if i do management science for UCSD and Business Admin for Cal Poly? Also do you have a recommendation for a safety for me? Thank you for all the help. I am pretty much undecided at the moment as I am also considering doing Slavic Studies. Sorry for all the questions, but also what do you think my chances for UCSD UCI or UCSB would be if i did do slavic studies?
Cal Poly SLO looks like a Match since they Superscore the ACT so that puts your ACT above the average of 30 along with SAT score. I forgot to mention that SLO will use 9-11th grades in their GPA calculation, so you might want to go back and recalculate your UC GPA adding in the 9th grades. SLO uses an MCA point system for admissions where you get bonus points for taking more than the required a-g courses such as Math/Foreign Language/Science etc…

For UCSD, they admit into the school first then into the major that is why it is recommended if you are applying to a capped major (Econ) select an non-capped major as an alternate. I would apply to Econ and put Management Science as the alternate. UCSD’s acceptance could either way (50/50) so definitely not a solid Match since they do not superscore. For UCSD, it will not matter if you want to do Slavic studies since they admit into the University first.
For UCI, it will probably be a slightly easier admit since their Business admin major is impacted and very selective.
For UCSB, Econ is in the College of Letters of Science which does not admit by major. If accepted, you are placed in the Pre-Econ major.
In order to qualify for admission into the Economics major, students must complete Economics 1, 2, and 10A with a UC grade-point average of 2.85 or above. No grade lower than a C in pre-major courses will be accepted. In addition, students must complete PSTAT 109 or 120A, Math 3A-B or 34A-B, and Writing 105AA-ZZ or 107AA-ZZ or 109AA- ZZ with a grade of “C” or higher; the grades in these courses will not be used in computing the pre-major GPA but will apply to the overall major GPA.
Again Slavic studies will be in the College of Letters of Science so major will not matter as much.
Apply to the majors that are your first choice.
Thanks for letting me know, looks like my Cal Poly GPA will be lower because of my 9th grade grades but i will get some MCA points for taking 4 years of Spanish.
If your CP GPA is lower than a 3.8, it may become a High Match school vs a Match school.
It’s a 3.84 is that still good as a match school? If you saw my transcript you would see my freshman year first semester was all Bs and a C and the rest of my grades each semester were all As and a couple (or less) Bs. Had this one year not been included my CSU GPA would about a 4.00
