chances, no volunteering

Im currently a senior applying to a few ba/md programs. Im going to apply but im sure there is almost no chance for acceptance because the fact that i have no medical ec's. Ive tried to get some this summer but the best i have got is strictly filing papers. I contacted doctors about shadowing and they have all shot me down. My ACT is also a little low.

All the programs im applying to dont require Subject tests

Get Medical Ecs!!!!!!!!!!!! If You Really Want To You Can Find A Doc To Shadow. Get Some Med Ecs And You Def Have A Shot.

Go to the free clinics around your county & ask to volunteer.

I agree with the position that others have taken in saying that Medical EC's help to establish your interest in medicine. So, I'd say to at least get some volunteering in a hospital or free clinic. I don't have any research either, but that also just serves to purpose of establishing ur interest in medicine. If you do volunteering at a hospital, it'll help since you might be able to base some stuff in ur essays on your experience volunteering.

And maybe you should take SAT II...I'd say you should take SAT but you wouldn't have the opportunity for both. No programs REQUIRE SAT II, but most of the people applying have them, and so I would think it'll hurt you to not have them. They're reallllllllllly easy tests though, so if you can, I'd take them this october.

thats not true..some requre sat 2

HPME requires sat II's. Quad, don't give out wrong info.

im sure ur not looking carefully enough, because not a single program i applied to said that subject tests were not required.

Sry, was exaggerating. But still quite a few programs don't require sat ii but you would be better off having them anyways.

Some programs require specific SAT IIs such as chemistry and math or bio. I think since your ACT score is pretty high you have a decent shot although the lack of medically related ec's and volunteer work will hurt. I also think (I'm not sure, though) that admissions officers think the SAT is a better judge of applicants. So if I were you, I'd try to take the SAT if possible but if you can't, don't worry. Since you're already in your senior year, just apply. There are some easier ones out there too.

i’m in the same boat as you should i get it immedietly?

Good that retaking ACT. Get more substantial EC’s both medically related and otherwise. Do not want to scare you off, but kids are loaded with sports, music, art, newspaper, awards, volunteering, shadowing, Med. Lab. research. You will compete against them. Use connections to get shadowing - contact your own physician, for example.

You know this thread is two years old.
