Chances of Acceptance as a One Year Student At CCC and Applying This Fall (2018)

Hi! So I had this whole elaborate plan of transferring in one year after high school mainly due to my easier major prep coursework and the fact that I had some AP’s under my belt. But unfortunately I didn’t pass the two I took this year (highkey still in shock about it) so that left me with only 16 units in AP credit :’)))). I did summer course and got 18 units with a GPA of 3.9. And this fall quarter I am taking 18 units and I am expecting to do really well in them. My main issues are that I won’t have my chem pre-req done for UCLA when its time to apply and I know they strongly encourage to finish it. I will have it done by winter quarter. I want to know how much is that going to lower my chances? Another problem I have is that I only have 47 units done by fall quarter meaning I have 22 units to take in winter and spring quarter. All of which are classes I just need for IGETC and to reach the credit minimum (other than chem). I know 22 units is a lot but I really believe I can handle as I am used to extreme academic pressure due to the fact that my high school was highly competitive and academically challenging. I am also finding the 4 classes I am taking right now and the 3 I took over summer to be extremely easy. But I am worried that the UC’s will find it alarming. Will it lower my chances?

My top schools are UCI, UCLA, and UCD. What do you guys think are my chances of getting in? My extracurriculars other than dance are non-existent so I might volunteer at a school. But I do work two part-time jobs. I am also planning to TA for teachers in winter and spring quarter. I don’t know if that will help. But feedback would be greatly appreciated. Trust me I know this is really unconventional and pretty risky but I am pretty set on doing it in one year. Thank you!

If the 18 summer and 18 fall are qtr units, I’m only coming up with a total of 40 completed units, not 47. So I assume summer session is semester.

That aside, I’m not sure what you mean by not having chem pre-req completed. Is that one class or more? If it’s one and it’s “strongly recommended,” add it in summer so they see you have intent to finish.

Lastly, the 22 units each final quarter. That is lot but it also inclues a lot of IGETC (presumably easier). You don’t necessarily need IGETC, you could do regular breath, but if you need those units you might as well do it - plus if your major is in Berkeley’s L&S the regular breadth does not allow AP (although IGETC does). It is a lot but if you feel confident, note in the academic comments. There’s not any way around it if you’re intent on transferring in a year.

BTW, you can do some IGETC P/NP. It won’t affect your chances at all, so if two Ps help, consider it. You could even mention you’re doing one P/NP each term in additional comments. That will assure them you aren’t overloading as much.

Hi! Thank you so much for you reply! The 47 units is my AP credit, summer units, and fall quarter units in it. About the chem pre-req, basically it is in the list for UCLA and they strongly recommend you have it done by the fall term you apply which I am super worried about. I won’t have chem done until winter quarter. How badly will that decrease my chances of acceptance? Also could you clarify the IGETC P/NP and regualr breadth? I know about IGETC because thats the pathway I’m doing but I don’t know much about regular breadth honestly. For P/NP are you saying I should do it because it will make the class easier? But how would it affect my GPA?

If I clarify my situation in the academic comments, its that enough for them to hopefully overlook chem?
