Any success storied here for transferring in one year from a CC to UC?
I'm anxiously waiting for decisions and worried since I only have winter and fall GPA to support me (though my IGETC will be totally finished after Spring).

I’m sorry I can’t help, but I’m in the same situation too! lots of ap credit from high school, crammed a lot of credits through summer/winter and in fall last year to finish the 60 units. I wish I’d had more time to coddle my gpa, but I had a lot of pressure from parents to rush. I feel really incredulous about having so few cc credits and would be thrilled if I got into any of the ‘lower tier’ schools…

try not to worry so much-- the decisions have been made! I’m also curious to hear from anyone who actually succeeded doing this.

I’m technically a one year transfer, though I will have over 70 units by the end of spring semester. Took spring courses, summer courses, fall courses, winter courses, and spring courses again. 15 units in the spring, 15 in the summer, 16 in the fall, 12 during the 5 week intersession, and 24 this semester.

I transferred last fall to UCLA from a ccc. I did decent in high school, but not good enough for ucla or cal; I was lazy. Enrolled to my local CC the summer after I graduated high school. Orginally, I planned to do poli sci, but after taking it in the summer, I knew it wasn’t for me. Instead, I decided to do English, and in the Fall I took 22 units with permission from my school’s dean to pass the unit cap. At the time I applied, I had a 4.0 cumlative with 29 semester units and AP’s. I took another 8 units in the winter, which I maintained my 4.0 still, and another 18 in the spring to finish off the year. What helped me the most was the fact that I had AP lit, so I was able to skip the two required English courses and go straight to pre-reqs, and I also had AP Calc which waived off my math class for igetc. Other classes that I got credit for were psychology, Government, and Chemistry. So, yeah it wasn’t too hard, just a lot of work. Anyways, Spring break has finally started, and I’m getting ready to drive home to riverside tommrow so I’d better get some sleep. Catch you guys later. Free feel to shoot me any one year transfer questions. Good luck!

Yep, 1 year hopeful-transfer here as well.

By the time I applied, I had FOUR semester units accounted for lol. By the time updates rolled around I had 26. Taking another 18 now, and my AP tests will barely eek me past 60.

I wonder how much having so little units counts against you.

I’m worried, I only have
3 graded units Summer
18 Units Fall
3 Units Winter
Taking 19 units now
I’ve got enough AP to put me around 64, but I’m scared since I’m a math major and most of my stuff just covered IGETC.

Anyone from last year that has a positive story?

If you are applying with 60 semester units, aka as a junior, then they don’t view you any differently than as if you took 2 or 3 years to transfer. The only difference is that they will look at your high school transcripts.

also, the amount of units you have during the time you apply doesn’t matter so much either, as long as you finish everything in the spring before you transfer. You can be finishing 3,4, or 5 pre-reqs in the spring, and they won’t mark it agisnt you. Just as long as you finish with a B or higher.

Just like regular transfers, if you don’t finish all pre-reqs before you transfer, you’ll be at a disadvantage.

I’m pretty much just saying you’re worrying too much bro. Just chill lol. One years arenot any different than 2 or 3 years transfers. In fact, you’re probably much better off than UC to UC or CSU/OOS transfers.

wait they look at your high school transcripts for 1 year transfers? Because this year I’ve pretty much haven’t tried at all because I thought high school grades didn’t matter.

^ yup, They look at high school transcripts for one year transfers, so I wouldn’t recommend messing around in H.S just cause you plan to go to a CC. However, with how it is now a days, its hard to finish all 60 units + igetc+ pre-reqs without having credit from H.S.
A.P tests will also grant you uc transferable units as well.

One yearing has always been hard, but from what I’ve been hearing from my old CC with the budget cuts, its going to be pretty much impossible in the next few years. The reason behind this is because new students at CCs get last priority to register for classes and many of them won’t get into any pre-req classes until they’ve got some classes under their belt which with the budget cuts will be impossible.
I’m glad that there were still some this year though.

Wait even if I get a TAG?

^Yes. Pretty much every UC will request your H.S transcripts anway. Especially if you’re using hs to furfill any kind of requirement like foriegn language.
What major are you doing? And how many ap tests have you passed?

Before fall 2011, I’ll have 3 ap tests(assuming I pass the 2 this yr) and 60 units in CC credits for transferable UC credits. I’m probably doing Mechanical Engineering at UCSB.

"wait they look at your high school transcripts for 1 year transfers? Because this year I’ve pretty much haven’t tried at all because I thought high school grades didn’t matter. "
Than how does this even make sense? I thought you were in H.S, and now you’re saying before fall you’ll have 60 units?

My local community colleges allow concurrent enrollment for high school students. I’ve taken community college classes alongside high school since junior year.

Yeah good luck with transfering as an Engineer major in a year. You do know you’ll need not only all 3 calc classes, but linear algebra, differential equations, biology and physics: mechanics, elec/magn and heat, light, and waves, right?

But yeah, you’ll need to send in your transcripts, but I don’t think they care unless you really facked up like got Fs and Ds.

Looks like I have to bring up some grades this semester ten.

Lol, how did you think you could avoid turning in a H.S transcript when you are using A.P scores for college credit.

Because it was never listed? Only thing I’ve seen where they considered your grades on HS transcripts were for some private colleges or if you were planning on doing transferring in as a sophomore(not as a junior)

Wait,so if I didn’t use AP credit, would it even matter? Finishing igetc isn’t even necessary for ME at UCSB, so ap gov credit doesn’t really matter. Bio AP is useless, but I didn’t realize that when I took it. I was planning on using AP chem to fill the prereqs, but I could just take one more class next year instead of using it,

And no, it won’t be too difficult finishing it in one year for me. I’ll have 1 math left, 1-2 chem, 3 physics, 2-4 engineering classes, and 1 english comp. Only problem is possible timing conflicts, but thats where I take required prereqs classes over advanced prep prereqs.
