Chances of acceptance at Penn State Up

Hi, I’m wondering what my chances at Penn State University Park would be. I’m an in state student. My GPA is 3.65W and my SAT score is a 1200/1600. My class rank is top 30%. Also, my gpa has been increasing since freshman year and I am predicting a high gpa for my senior year, but penn state doesn’t look at senior year grades. I took a lot of honors courses throughout my high school career and now as a senior I still push myself with a difficult schedule and double up on math senior year. I have good Extra curriculars like: coaching a u8 soccer team, Freshman forward leader at my school, captain of Varsity soccer team, All County soccer first team, All league soccer first team all star, varsity baseball captain, All County first team baseball all star. I plan to apply early, maybe a month before the November 30th deadline. I also plan on applying undecided and for the summer option. All I think about is this and I could use a little help.

Bump please

With a 3.65 GPA and a 1200 SAT with the summer option checked with DUS, you have a good shot. Applying DUS with the summer option makes you the most competitive you can be. My daughter got in a few years ago with a 3.5, but she had to go in the summer. It was the best thing she ever did.

@jlhpsu Thank you for the response, I kept doubting myself. Sounds like summer is a good chance to get used to the campus as well.

You did not put you UW GPA

@Kingly71 PSU only looks at your weighted GPA. UW GPA is irrelevant. Grading scale (how difficult the school weights) is a different story though and PSU will definitely be looking at that. But that is impossible to determine here on CC. Comparing GPA’s across schools is nearly useless because of the grading scale. For example, a 4.0 at a neighboring school to ours would be as low as a 3.3 at my kid’s high school. That’s because at the other school, an A is anything over a 90. At our school, it’s a 94.

PSU will look at how the student performed against their schools grading scale.

@jlhpsu my school is very similar in terms of our grading scale. My Gpa is a little higher than your daughters, but my SAT scores are pretty low. What was your daughter’s SAT? I also applied UD and for summer session.

@tm72399 My daughter had a 3.5GPA and a 28 ACT which is equivalent to about a 1300 on the current SAT.
