I don't know if I am going to retake the SAT's.. since I think I've reached my peak, well I might take it again because of my horrible writing score. I'm thinking about applying to NYU early decision. As far as essays go i'm pretty confident that I can write a pretty decent essay because I've practiced with some previous college essay formats where I try to throw in my "hook" and most of the people who read my essays say they are pretty good.

Question:
I'm thinking about studying in another country during my second semester of my senior year... I am aiming to finish my required Texas credits the first semester and might graudate as a mid-term graduate if there is conflict with studying in another country. However, will this affect my admission to UT:Austin and how will it affect my admission?

6.0 GPA, huh?
(Sorry, I just had to.)

and Flopsy: well i just post what I know. I haven't looked too much into the GPA thing.. I just know the school gets it right when you apply to colleges... and our valedictorian has an average of like 98 and her GPA is a 5.8... so tell me she doesn't have a 4.0 ;) and my 3.4 GPA is based on a 4.0 scale (i think it's wrong but oh well)

bump :)
Man.. I keep forgetting stuff:

a few questions first:
is your gpa weighted or unweighted
did you take any ap classes
and if yes, scores???
and in my opinion, I do think you should retake the SATs,
maybe take a practice test and see if you improve before you say if you've reached your peak or not :)
I know some people are better at standardized tests than others, but in my opinion, I do think that with practice you could do better :)
I know I didn't say much about your chances, but I don't think I'm qualified enough and I do believe that raising your SAT score should give you a better chance. I know at some colleges they say that even the scores from the november testing date gets to them in time for early admissions (if marked on answer sheet when you take it) but different colleges may say different things.
GOOD LUCK! I truly wish you all the best!

You are top 10% of your graduating class from a Texas public HS, therefore you are guaranteed admission to UT.

jokim5655
GPA: unweighted
I took 2 AP classes this year (the only two my school is offering for juniors)
AP English: 3
AP History: 3
Well, ok I bought all the SAT books from Barnes and Noble.. and I wrote in all of them. The only thing that's not completed in my workbooks are the final two practice tests in the blue collegeboard SAT book. According to all the practices i've taken my avg. math was around 680 avg. reading was about 670 and my avg. writing was about 650 (heh about 30-50 pts higher than my actual).

bandit_TX: that's not always true. I know another asian who scored a 1200 on his SAT's and is in the 5% of his graduating class. He did not get into UT>

It is state law.

it is state law haha. i dunno what's up with that guy, but trust us.

Well my school is an I.S.D. I think that's public (haha i know nothing about texas T_T)

ISD is public. You are in at UT. Period!!!!!
As long as you're in the top ten percent.

I sure hope so >.<

Wait, does that go for every state? That if you go to a public high school in the state and are in the top 5-10% of your class, you're guaranteed admission to the state university? I go to the best public school in my county, in Maryland and am in the top 5% of my class. Are you saying I am guaranteed admission into the University of Maryland?

Texas state law......

Do u live in Mission, TX?

yes i do live in mission, TX.
