I hate to pull the race card... really I think it's stupid that minorities often get a leg up just because of their race or ethnicity. Buuut, at the same time I'm extremely grateful for it. I'm an african american student and Harvard is my dream school. Does anyone know the exact or even roughly the statistics of what % of African American students are admitted to Harvard? Yale and Brown too, because I'm applying to all three. I'm in the top 1% of my class, have good test scores, an adult job in the field I'm majoring in, volunteer hours, the works. But lots of people have that and don't get into Harvard. So to what degree will I have an edge, being a URM, when I apply next fall? thanks so much!!!

practically guarentee tbh.

Harvard is one of the only top schools to consistently refuse to reveal how many African Americans applied, but of course they always show off what percentage of the admit pool is African-American (over 11% this year). Although the African-American acceptance rate is definitely higher than that for Caucasians and Asians, we’re talking about Harvard, one of the most selective colleges in the world, so the admission rate is still extremely low for African-American applicants, especially with more minorities applying every year. Bottom line: even if you’re African-American, you still have a very very slim chance of being accepted to Harvard, so your academic and extracurricular accomplishments need to be impressive and plentiful.

Good luck! :)

You have a fantastic shot. I’m glad that you’re applying next year so that you won’t be my competition this year lol
