does anyone know what kind of a boost an african american gets at harvard, it at all? and what kind of gpa/sat would they need?

You get a boost from being a URM (underrepresented minority), since Harvard, along with the other Ivy League schools, is seeking to increase the diversity of their student body. There is no set GPA or SAT score; just make sure you do the best you can and perform to the best of your ability.

i really hope so

According to the study that has been posted on CC regarding race and college admissions, blacks/African Americans are five times as likely to be admitted as whites and 15 times as likely to be admitted as Asians with the same statistics. Even so, Harvard, along with its Ivy League counterparts and Stanford, has been known to pass over a 4.0/2400 Caucasian or Asian for an 1800/3.7 African American.

I think Ivy leagues are usually seeking AAs more. They’re not going to accept every single AA that applies of course, but they’ll accept many AAs who have good and not SUPERB or EXCELLENT applications. Especially AAs from “disadvantaged” backgrounds. I think a lot more Asians apply to Harvard and therefore a lot more get turned down.
