I’m a cc student at Montgomery College, hoping to transfer to either towson or umbc, umbc being very much the preferred school because of its Computer Science program. I’ve been taking all the required core classes that are unrelated to my major at the cc in hopes of taking the important classes at actual uni. but because of this, as well as some pretty major personal life issues, my gpa has descended to a stifling 2.35. but to keep up with my major, i’ve been doing lots and lots of extra curricular activities like programming competitions outside of school, and have several prizes to show for it.
my question is this: what are my chances of getting admitted to umbc with such a low gpa? i’ve seen posters on this site who have gotten in with gpas that were lower than the university’s minimum 2.5 requirement, so i’m hoping my extracurriculars can give me a hand, considering I’m only planning to take computer science courses when i get to uni.
