UMD Transfer Spring 2015 Chances?

I am a student at Montgomery Community College with a 2.3 cumulative GPA. On my transcript you can see that my grades have been improving (got a 3.0 last semester)

I applied regular decision.
45 credits
Great essay (Talked about why my grades were bad and my persistence)
Good extracurriculars and resume
1 recommendation letter.

Will I get in? Also does anyone know someone who got in with a low gpa?

For transfers, Maryland general admissions doesn’t read essays, rec letters, or care about EC’s, they’re strictly by cumulative GPA. That said, Montgomery College has a grade replacement policy for GPA calculation and UMD honors the Montgomery College GPA as reported (rather than recalculating with the low grades etc). I highly suggest you retake courses that are dragging down your GPA so low. I have seen a few people get in with 2.9x GPA’s, but more often I’ve seen people with anything under 3.0 cumulative get rejected (including myself with a 2.75, initially). This all assumes that you don’t have credits from any other college.

Hi I was wondering if someone was able to chance me as well. I have a 3.49 overall GPA with 38 credits. I do have an upward trend in my GPA. I attended an out of state 4 year university last year but this semester I decided to go to my local Maryland Community College. I have met the math and english requirements. I saw online that the average GPA they accepted last spring was a 3.25 (http://www.admissions.umd.edu/advisors/TransferStudentProfile.php</a>). Does this mean I can pretty much count on being accepted? I applied for the spring by the priority date. I was also a DIII athlete at my old school if that means anything. And I am a business major. I know I’ll need to apply to the Smith school in March but I am just asking if I have a good chance of be admitted to College Park this spring.

As long as you have the math/English reqs done I’d say you’re fine for general admissions.

To be consider for a transfer student you have to have a GPA of a 3.0. If you have a 3.5 you have an exceptional high chance. Good luck on getting in. IF you have you Associates with a 2.3 then they have no choice but to accept you.

Can anyone chance me, Im nervous about my decision.
