I was accepted to my college early action. I had all weighted As freshman year, sophomore year, junior year, and fall semester of senior year. Then in spring semester of senior year I got one weighted C, one weighted B, and four weighted As (all AP classes). I recently received an email from an admissions officer asking for an explanation for this drop and saying that this could impact my acceptance. What are the chances I’ll be rescinded?
I suspect this is a new user ID and you’ve actually used this site before. Thus, I invite you to search on this oft-repeated question. The answer has been repeated about 8000 times.
Do you have a good (valid) reason for the low grades?
College admissions people get nervous that students who slack off just because they are seniors may have self-discipline problems in college because of all the excitement and freedom that comes freshman year.
The B was in AP Physics, a class that I did try my best in but struggled with because I found the concepts to be difficult. Numerically I had a four point grade drop in that class.
The C was in AP Economics and my grade was 19 points lower than in first semester. I switched to an online version of the class for spring semester. Not only did I have difficulty adjusting to the online environment, but the class was also 14 weeks long, which is one month less than the typical 18 week curriculum that the class would have in school, so I had a significantly shorter amount of time to learn the material. My dad had two job changes during this time, as well, which also created stress for our family. I explained all of this to the admissions officer who sent me the email, but I have yet to receive a response. I also left a voicemail, but that hasn’t been answered either, and I’m not quite sure what else I can do.
