Chances of Cal-State Fullerton/Long Beach/Pomona/San Diego/San Jose

I’m doing this for a friend.
He just finished his junior year.

CSU/UC Weighted GPA: 2.85
ACT: 28
(Got D in Algebra 2, Made it up Summer with A)
One AP: Chemistry

EC:
Track and Field Two Years (Varsity Level)
Elementary School Tutor: Two Years, about 200 hours
Dr. Khin Khin Oo Intern: 20 hours
Dr. Kyaw Lyn Intern: 20 hours
Sports Medicine Club Volunteer: Three Years, about 120 hours
Kare 4 Kids Club Volunteer: One Year, 30 hours

Major: Engineering/Computer Science

If my friend can’t get into any of these, can you guys recommend some CalStates that he can get into.

Thanks.

FYI: You should not be posting for your friend. They need to make their own account.

These Cal States admit by major and eligibility index. You are ranked on based this criteria and they accept from the top down until all spots are filled. Local applicants get priority so they can gain admission with lower EI’s than out of area applicants.
Is the CSU GPA posted, include the D or the A for Algebra 2? If so recalculate using only repeat grade.

Based on posted stats, your friend is Reaching too high for such competitive majors and targeting top Cal States with a low GPA.
What is their local CSU? I would look at Sac State, San Francisco State, Chico State, San Marcos, East Bay.

Here is the CSU impacted major/campus matrix. They should look at the non-impacted campuses for the best chance at these majors.

https://www.calstate.edu/sas/documents/ImpactedProgramsMatrix.pdf

Eligibility index: (CSU GPA x200) + (ACT composite x10). Your EI = 850

GPA is very low for Engineering/CS.

SDSU: Reach
SJSU: Reach for CS/Low Reach some of the other Engineering majors
CSULB: Reach
CSUF: Low Reach
CPP: Low Reach
