Personal hobbies: I love music and have been playing the violin and piano since age 11. I’m also an AVID reader.

Background: I’m A first generation Mexican-American. I will be the first in my family that will attend university. Grew up in a low income household. I’m giving this info because I heard that it might be useful for colleges to know

UC GPA: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Post Capped weighted and Fully weighted.
First generation will help. URM status will not for the UC’s.

Any opinions?

Assuming your UC GPA is 4.3 as posted, you have a solid chance at UCLA/UCSD and USC. UCSC would be a safety. Make sure for USC you have some good LOR’s and write some outstanding essays for all your schools.

Best of luck.

You’re right, colleges will definitely want to know about your heritage and that you’re first generation. Your scores look great!

A few questions that will help us evaluate your chances:

-Are you a California resident? (for the UC’s)
-What is your planned major?
-Can you calculate your UC GPA on the linked calculator up there?

I would say you have a very good chance at most of these schools. Your academic qualifications are quite solid, and I’m really glad you have taken that many subject tests since I’ve seen many who would like to apply to these schools but still have not taken any. I assume you would like to go into engineering (STEM) and it looks like you have done some ECs related to that (your internship looks good on your application), but if you can, it never hurts to participate in a few more engineering-related ECs. That said, here is how I would evaluate you:

Stanford - reach (is a reach for everyone, but you still have a good chance)
Duke - low reach
UCLA - high match
USC - high match
NYU - low match
UCSD - high safety
UCSC - high safety

Good luck! I would really appreciate it if you could chance me back here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1995754-chance-me-low-gpa-rank-cornell-rice-wash-u-ucla-etc-p1.html

Thanks for all the replies! I intend to major in eighteen Mechanical Engineering of Computer Science A. I am a California resident by the way
