Chances of getting in and Suggestions?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some opinions/chances on whether I will get into these colleges:

Tulane
Boston College
Boston University
Emory
Colgate
Tufts
Amherst
Williams
Bowdoin
Wesleyan
Georgetown
Wesleyan
Johns Hopkins
UCONN
Rice

About me:
3.63 GPA UW (Inc. freshman year)
Varsity tennis 9-12
Stage Crew
Southern Youth Orchestra Symphony (First chair)
Tae Kwon Do (Martial Arts, black belt)
Volunteer at Yale-New Haven Hospital
Mostly honors classes, 8 APs
Class Council/Student Council
+a few others

Opinions+suggestions?

SAT/ACT Scores? Recommendations? Race? All of those are important factors.

Though your GPA is low for some schools (e.g. Amherst, Georgetown, Bowdoin, Hopkins, etc.), your EC’s are impressive and unique. If your test scores and recommendations are good, I would say you have a solid shot at all those schools. Just remember this entire thing is impossible to predict exactly.

Good Luck !!!:)

Thanks for the quick reply! I am of asian ethnicity, 2250 on the SAT, did not take the ACT.
Which 10 of these schools do you think I have the best shot at?

I will assume you took a fair number of AP’s. That is another important factor.

Your record is outstanding. You have an excellent shot at quite a number of schools. My assessment based on what you have presented and assumes there are no hidden factors.

Tulane - for sure. Apply EA by early October (no obligation to attend) and you will have an acceptance by end October with an offer for merit scholarship, probably $25,000. You also would have a shot at the full tuition scholarship (DHS), which requires an additional application

Boston College - good chance

Boston University - for sure

Emory - good chance

Colgate - don’t know enough about their admissions to be sure, but based on stats I would say good chance

Tufts - decent chance

Amherst - always tough, for everyone. So-so chance

Williams - see Amherst

Bowdoin - almost as tough as Amherst and Williams, but not quite. Small LAC’s are always hard to say because they have relatively few slots

Wesleyan - See Bowdoin

Georgetown - decent chance

Johns Hopkins - a little tougher than Georgetown

UCONN - Of course you will get in

Rice - about the same as Georgetown

All the LAC’s you name are highly competitve (Colgate a bit less so), but if you apply to all of them I would think you will get into at least one. I think the same with Rice, JHU, and Emory. You should get into the remainder.

Thanks fallenchemist. If I apply to the ones labeled “good chance” how many do you think I would get into?

No idea, LOL. That’s taking what is already an educated guess and cutting it even more finely. As a general rule, I think you would hope for half-2/3. But I cannot know how good your essay is, how good your recs are, and I cannot read the minds of the admissions people. Or maybe better put, I cannot know what kind of applicant pool they will get this year, i.e. what your competition will be.

You have a good list, don’t obsess. Apply to them all, and try not to go crazy waiting. You cannot fail to end up at a great school next year, even if it isn’t one of your top choices. Trust me when I tell you that on your list, virtually any of the schools are ones most people would give almost anything to be at. You are a lucky guy.

Lol thanks for taking the time to help me out!!

Are you top 10% in your graduating class?

I agree with everything fallenchemist said, except I’d say Rice is a slightly higher reach than Georgetown, given the SAT and GPA profiles of their accepted students. You have a better chance being accepted to Georgetown, imo, but DO apply to Rice. You have a nice list of schools and you will be accepted to many of them.
