Hi everyone I am searching for some advice. I am currently a junior at UTSA and am looking to transfer to UT during Spring 2016. After spending some time at UT I realized I fit in academically and socially there than at UTSA. My original plan was to enroll in the school of business, but after reading I realized it would be easier to enter and then change my major once enrolled in the school. If i enter with a gpa of 3.5+ what major should I apply under for COLA? I really need advice because this is something I really want. Thank you.
By junior you mean you have more than 60 hours? If so, you are going to have too many hours to get into McCombs most likely. Once you get to UT, you must complete 26 hours in residence before applying for internal transfer. “Students with more than 90 hours are encouraged to consider other options, such as completing a degree in their current college/school or alternate institution with the option of pursuing an MBA or MPA degree at a later date…”

Depending on how many hours you’ll have when you get there, you may be over the cap.
You can do a Business Foundations certificate with any major though.
What would I be able to major in then? I really wanted to go to UT but unfortunately I did my associates and graduated with 60+ hours…
Well actually I wanted to major in Advertising, and UT actually offers that unlike UTSA, so would it be easier to try to transfer into the Advertising school at UT?

Here are Moody’s restrictions on internal transfer. They seem to allow you to transfer as long as you have less than 60 hours at UT.
If that does not work, you could do Economics with the Business Foundations Certificate without leaving COLA.
Would you suggest that my best bet be to apply under COLA with a 3.7+ gpa under a random major and then once there attempt to apply to Moody? I understand the hardest part is getting.
Haven’t you already applied? Above it says Spring 2016. If you are applying for next year, your odds are going to be worse. You might be better off waiting to go to Austin for grad school or to work.
There is a thread devoted to transfers on this same page. You might take a look at that. There was discussion yesterday about desireability of candidates with more than a certain number of hours.
Regardless you need a plan in case you are denied transfer into Moody. You need a major that you can live with in case you don’t get in.
At this point, just finish your degree at UTSA (only one more year, right?), and go to UT for grad school. I don’t know what program you are pursuing at UTSA, but I’m guessing it’s either in the school of business administration or the department of communication. Either way, the lack of an advertising program at UTSA can make a strong personal statement for your application.
