i have been wait-listed at Williams and Duke... I wanted to ask u guys that recently I have been chosen as one of the top 6 students of my country (Pakistan) to represent it in the International Mathematical Olympiad 2006 in Slovenia... could you tell me whether i should communicate this to Williams and Duke and my chances off the wait-list, like how much could they improve??? ... my SAT1 is 1490... SAT II - 2400 and I have many other E.C's... please respond .. Also two people got in WILLIAMS and one in Duke from my country, but none are attending each of the schools... would that increase chances any bit??? like do they take into account the 'geographic diversity' kinda thing?

You should definetly tell them and include how much you would LOVE to go to their school.
Good luck!

Generally speaking, in terms of taking people off the waitlist. I have a friend who was waitlisted at Davidson and she had been told that the moment a space opens for students in the Northeast area, that she would be the first female to go. So I think they do consider a sense of geographic diversity, especially international diversity in schools such as Williams and Duke. And if this provides any comfort, I have the stats that two years ago 10% had been taken off the waitlist which is apretty large number considering waitlist students. All in all, if you feel a real want to attend a certain college, follow up to the schools your desires [but avoid acting stalkerish, like don't keep their admissions office on speed dial ;) ]. Nonetheless, I personally would avoid any specific stats and rather show determination.
