You should get it maybe by the end of this week!

Congrats! I got in too off the waiting list.

congrats!!!!

thanks! I'm really excited, if it was a joke I'd cry

he, i got waitlist too, they notify by e-mail, congrats evry1

How long did they give you to decide after calling you?

i think you request an admitted students packet and then two weeks after that.

hopefully they both call and e-mail :S

hi all... demo44 , can u tell me whr u from? Like US or intel. student??
I am an intel. waitlisted at Duke, and have not heard yet...

Is the waitlist ranked? Or the committee reads the applicant's application and then decides whether or not to accept him/her?

I'm from the US, NE

Demo... I got off the waitlist last saturday, i was shocked. I want to get the pack before i decide. I'm choosing between duke and cornell, what would you do in my position?

skyman, congraz, did you tell duke that cornell accepted you (on the waitlist reply card)??

No, at that time i was still deciding between cornell and middlebury (i was recruited for tennis there), so i marked undecided. I wonder if it had anything to do with my acceptance off the waitlist?

S1 just finished his first year in Pratt at Duke--has LOVED it. He was accepted at Cornell and others) last year. Cornell was the one school to which he was accepted that he never even went to see. As soon as he was accepted at Duke, the others didn't matter!! Absolutely no regrets about his choice!!

hey skyman-im in the Exact smae situation, Cornell or Duke. Let me know what u decide, and congrats either way!

i got in, got the phone call today. i am deciding between either duke (obviously) and middlebury. i have no idea what to do. ill wait to see the financial aid, and go from there, i guess.

jvhowube, having gone to both (one undergrad, the other grad), I'd recommend Midd. You can always go to a large research uni for grad school...

arcadia - maybe you can help me decide which to go to.

When I visited Midd, I felt like it was a great fit. I'm a small class, environmentalist, bike-riding, naturey kinda guy. The one problem I've had is that NO ONE has ever heard of it. I know that it shouldn't matter, as long as I know that its a great college (which I do).

But now Duke drops this bomb on me. I'm accepted off the waitlist. I feel like Duke's name carries so much weight it could get me many places (grad school and even a job right out of school). Also, the size opens doors to many opportunities that Middlebury might not be able to offer me. I'm wary though of the larger classes, the unorganized undergrad advising, the south, the lack of a community feel, etc.

My question is this: Will Duke's prestige over Midd make an immense difference when I'm applying to grad school, or trying to get a job, etc. And does Duke have a much larger amount of opportunities than Midd due to size and endowment, etc.

Also, what is your field of work?

I'm in the environmental field. In terms of grad schools, a Middlebury degree will open just as many doors as a Duke degree, IMHO. I've seen the GPA multipliers used in a grad school admissions office, and Midd and Duke had the same multiplier (along with Harvard, Stanford, Williams, Amherst, and 2 dozen or so other selective schools). In terms of employers, most top employers will have heard of Midd, especially on the East Coast and in major West Coast cities. Duke is certainly the way to go if you plan on staying in the South. I hated Durham with a passion. Middlebury has a charm that Durham will never have. Then again, if you crave city life, then Duke would be a better fit. Classes at Midd are small, and profs accessible. Although Midd's endowment is much smaller, $750 million isn't all that bad for a college of 2,300. If prestige is paramount for you, then perhaps you should go to Duke. But trust me, people in the know have heard of Midd.

Good luck with this tough decision.
