College admissions are about to roll out and I’m just really scared about my chances of getting into a UC. I just got rejected from CSULB which was my safety school and I really hope it doesn’t foreshadow my results for UCs. I applied to UCLA, UCI, UCSB, UCSD, and UCR.
Here my stats:
UW GPA: 3.47
W GPA: 4.3
Took 10 AP classes and 7 honors classes
Pretty good and diverse ECs: I hold leadership positions in my school’s National Honor Society and California Scholarship Federation, Red Cross, church’s altar serving program, and teach Vietnamese to elementary kids at my church.
100+ hours of volunteer work
I am the 2nd president of a club called NAMI (National Association on Mental Illnesses) since its founding in 2019 and quadrupled the number of members in the club. Present student led presentations on different mental illness and health topics. Got my school principle and vice principal involved in our events on campus. Through this, I was able to earn the opportunity to do 2 townhall presentations for NAMI CA to show how I was able to build my club on campus in 1 year and how others can start one at their school too. I earned a position in the NAMI CA Youth Advisory Committee and did an interview with Blue Sky, Blue Shield’s mental health initiative who will be publishing an article about my club’s impact at my school on their website.
I recieved an email from UCLA requesting for supplemental information and to answer their questions. I did both questions filling up all (or nearly) 4000 characters. I heard it’s a great opportunity to add more to my application and that it’s a positive sign (so i was told from students there). But now that I’ve been rejected from a safety, I’m terrified that it doesn’t mean anything.
My selected major is Psychology/Pscyhobiology. I have a huge passion for mental health and learning about how we can reduce that within young children/teens.
Let me know what you think! Be honest, I rather hear honest thoughts now so I can brace for decisions next month. I really appreciate it thank you!
What are your 3 UC GPA’s ? GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub
Intended major Psychology is highly impacted.
Your CSU GPA(from application)?
Long Beach is one of the more popular schools in the CSU’s behind SLO/Pomona. It might be a safety if you are at a local high school.
UW: 3.38
W: 4.18
Weighted and Capped: 3.71
For CSULB Psychology 2021 admits had an average of 3.93 CSU GPA so your 3.71 is on the lower side which could explain your denial if you are not local. If you are local, I would expected an acceptance but not necessarily in your choice major. Psychology is highly impacted at CSULB.
For the UC’s, here are the admit rates for 2021. UC Riverside looks like the most likely although a supplemental request from UCLA may help but not always a positive admit sign. Are there other schools besides the UC’s that you applied? With a UC GPA below 4.0, most of the UC’s are probably out of reach.
You look like a solid student, but the UC’s are crazy competitive along with the top CSU’s.
2021 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 2%
UCLA: 1%
UCSD: 5%
UCSB: 4%
UCI: 14%
UCD: 23%
UCSC: 46%
UCR: 62%
UCM: 96%
a 3.71 makes all of your listed schools reaches. UCM
and most of the CSUs would be happy to have you. Hopefully you applied more broadly.
UNR is still accepting aps…
good luck.
