Hey guys, rising senior here! So I had an appointment with my counselor to talk to her about college applications, and she actually told me I should consider UT engineering a safety. However, I still feel like it’s a match since it’s so competitive (a guy with a 33 at our school got rejected by cockrell last year!). I’m going to apply to Aerospace Engineering as my first choice.
In state resident
GPA: 3.98 UW, 4.60 W
Class rank: 3 of 620 (top 1%)
SAT I: 2290 (730 CR, 770 M, 790 W)
SAT II: Haven’t arrived yet, but strongly predicting 770+ Math II, 750+ Chem, 750+ USH
Based solely on my academics, should I still just consider UT’s Aero engineering a match, just to be safe? Do I have a decent chance of getting accepted? Thanks for reading!
P.S - Idk if UT has affirmative action, but I’m African-American if that helps!
I’m reasonably sure you’ll be accepted, but nothing is absolutely sure where UT admissions are concerned. That said, I can’t think of a single reason why any school would deny you
@neoking UT uses an Academic Index and Personal Achievement Index to evaluate admissions. Go to Appendix D, page 31 of the linked PDF and it explains the AI and PAI formulas.
You will see from the AI SAT formula for engineering, given your class rank and SAT scores that you have a very high score. As long as you write good essays and have decent ECs your PAI score should be high also.
Nothing is ever guaranteed but assuming you are in state, you didn’t mention, I would think you are as close to a lock as it gets.
I’m in Aero E Honors right now at UT and I had slightly lower stats than you actually, but I went to a VERY competitive high school known nationally. But you will get in no doubt and I suggest you apply to honors as well because i’m fairly sure you will get in. If you wanna know more or have any question feel free to PM me!!
