Chances of getting into Columbia?

Hi everyone...

I'm new to CC.. but I saw people asking for their chances to certain schools so I decided to try it... I really appreciate all your feedback (criticisms, encouragements, constructive feedbacks), just you taking the time to read my ramblings and responding means a lot to me!

so here's how it goes:

I'm a rising senior at a public magnet ib school...
GPA: 3.94 weighted: 4.7
SAT: 2250 (first sitting) should I retake?
SAT II: biology 760, taking math II and lit in fall
PSAT: 224 (maybe NM scholar)
APs: 5s: Lit, Calc BC, Stat, Enviro, US history, US Gov, Microecon
4s: Macroecon, Euro, Spanish Lang, Bio
Taking 4 IB HLs, three other APs next year
Awards: national creative communication essay contest top 10 finalist, scholastic regional silver key winner, Agnes Scott book award, national AP scholar (I guess), county-wide poetry contest hon. mention, city-wide MLK human rights essay contest 2nd place, one world education essay contest finalist, other minor art and writing honors, three medals at state-wide Science Olympiad

ECs:
1). Chair of environmental club at our school, do our best to reduce energy consumption/waste by going around and turning off lights every Friday, recycling after sport games, received regional honors for environmental excellence, 600+ hours

2). 1st county-wide online student newspaper founder and editor in chief, wrote almost 70 original pieces in the first quarter, gave writing workshops

3). established non-profit organization to help immigrant students learn English more efficiently, paired up peer tutors based on language needs, helped students prepare for exams

4). teen-ink VIP/featured writer/published author, stage-of-life national blogging site high school editor

5). county-wide SGA vice president, MD youth advisory committee public awareness chair, former county youth advisory council facilitator

6). interned at a local, navy-based lab working on an independent research project for three years

hooks? (don't know if they actually are): first generation college, immigrant, low-income?

You have an excellent chance of getting in to Columbia Univeristy. However, nothing is guaranteed. Plenty of highly competitive applicants get rejected. All I can tell you is that you are going to be a very competitive applicant.

May I suggest you alter this?

“established non-profit organization to help …”

You established an ad hoc charity/service organization by the sound of it. An actual NFP requires state taxation registration, including bylaws and incorporation. Many HS students don’t realize the implications of declaring that “they founded an NFP”

Your EC’s are stellar!! You will probably get into Columbia, but as Achilles said, there is really no guarantee with Ivy’s. If you want to increase your chances even further, you can re-take your SAT I.

^ This is why asking strangers (mostly other HS students) for their guesses on your chances really amounts to little.

“will probably get into Columbia” suggests more than 50%, right? Given that the current admit rate was 7%, this equates admissions profile is more than 7 times greater than the average admit. There’s no basis to say that.

You’re viable and should apply. But to ask anyone to quantify your chances is a fool’s errand.
