I applied regular decision, using the My Choice App
So here are my stats:
SAT: 1540/2400
GPA: 3.38
Activities:
Senior Class Council Officer at Large
FBLA Officer
Young Republicans Secretary

Debate Team Member
Interact Club
(not all of the clubs fit onto the list, so do you think I should mail them a list including all the activities?????????????, I put the ones that seemed most important)
School: Decent Virginia Public School
Race: Hispanic/White
Religion: Roman Catholic
Essay: How keeping the arts in the public schools are essential
Recommendations: Math, History, and Business teacher who all love me did letters. Then I got the counselor recommendation and she likes me also.

MY GPA might seem low but it is because my school changed their grading system
We had a seven point system but now we have a ten point system
By seven point I meant grading scales- (we used this through the end of my tenth grade year)
-A-93-100
-B-85-92
-C-77-84
-D-70-76
-F-69 and below
By Ten point I meant- (We began using this in eleventh grade)
-A-90-100
-B-80-89
-C-70-79
-D-60-69
-F-59 and below
But the old grades were not converted to the new scale so our grades on our transcript reflect two scales.

So do you think I have a good chance of getting into Fordham?????

if 92s counted as B’s at my school I would be screwed!

& I hate to break it to you, but your SAT scores are far below average and I think the average is like 1820-2020 with so many people above that. From my experience, the SAT scores are pretty important at Fordham, so it will be a big reach. Don’t get your hopes up, but still apply because you still have a chance.

any match or safety schools you could try? i noticed you are trying for nyu too which looks like they get the same caliber students as fordham (some even higher)

Well I did get accepted to St. John’s University(Queens campus) and also received a scholarship for 8K so I am not applying to anymore safety schools, I really like St. Johns but I really love Fordham. Yeah the whole seven point grading has caused a lot of problems for people trying to get into schools like I have a ton of B+'s which were 90-92. And those have pulled down my GPA so much! I hope they notice the two scales because it is pretty confusing.

Your high school will send how your school does their calculations. Colleges know that for every high school there is, there is a different way of calculating GPA. There also is that hardness of curriculum factor. I don’t like people asking to be “chanced” on this board because so many different factors go into the process and a student with a 3.1 GPA from one high school may be looked at more favorably than a student with a 3.9 from another high school. Haven’t you ever wondered how there possibly can be all of these 4.0+ students out there? And — they go to college and get C’s? Then they try to say that they partied too much. Well maybe they did, or maybe in the real context they aren’t A students at all. So relax, your application is in and it will be what it is. But don’t have people without your background knowledge chance you on this board. Its a disservice to you.
