Chances of getting into Georgia Tech or Emory?
I am an Asian male from Marietta, GA. I go to a very competitive high school, the 2nd best in Georgia. I am a very hard worker & dedicated student.
My GPA is currently 4.1 weighed & my ranking is i believe 80/670 (It will improve this year). I have/will take AP Chemistry, AP US History, AP Calculus AB, AP Government, AP Microeconomics, AP Biology, AP Physics B, AP Spanish Language. I have taken numerous honors courses.
My SAT scores really do not reflect how smart & hard working I am as a student. This is due to test anxiety & I hope that these numbers will not cost my future.
Verbal: 580 Math: 650 Writing: 610
Extracurriculars:
National Honors Society, Future Physicians Club (president), Teacher @ church, Boy's Tennis, Pianist, Job @ Nursery, Fairview Development Center, physicians assistant & much more. I'm active in the community w/ 150+ hours & counting.
Please inform me of my chances of getting into GT or Emory University. I'm worried & I'm willing to work hard.

Let me know what I need to work on or how I must proceed. Will a higher GPA weigh out the lower SAT score? Should I take any SAT II subject tests? Please advise me on what I should do or let me know if I am fine or not. Thank you very much!

If you applied with the stats that you carry right now, your chances of acceptance at Emory would be poor. Your SAT score is too low, particularly your verbal and writing sections. Your class rank and GPA are also on the low-side, although it does look like you have taken a challenging course load.

My suggestion is to study for the SAT intensively and take it again. Of course, try to get the highest score possible. But raising your Math, Verbal, and Writing scores all by 50 points would help your chances considerably. Also, try working extremely hard next academic year and pulling your class rank and GPA up as high as possible. At least try to get your rank high enough so that you are in the top 10% of your class.

Lastly, show interest by visiting the campus. Write good essays and submit a well-written application. Your ECs right now look good.

Intersting stats. Your SAT score don't corroborate with your GPA. Which is there real you? You'll need to retake those SAT's or ACT. If not you better have a good explanation about why you test as you do.

If you really want an Emory degree, you should consider applying to Oxford College (a division of Emory University). Then after 2 years you will get an automatic transfer to the main campus.

Just raising your SAT total to 2000 would probably put you over the threshold of acceptance. Just make sure your ECs, essays and recommendations are outstanding. Why are you unique? That king of thing. That being said, I think you have a good chance at acceptance. I was accepted with an SAT of 2070, but my gpa was only a 3.65 uw and 3.8 w.

yea, i was accepted w/ a 3.4 and top 15% of class, but my SAT's were 2160. Goes to show that Emory is prob one of those colleges that put a good amount of emphasis on one's SAT score. The only way a score like yours can be made up is with amazing grades, and decent Xtra-curricular activities, etc. And since the acceptance rate went down about 11-12 percent this year, next year will also be unbelieveably hard. Good luck.

Well I guess I would like to say that I got accepted to Emory, and my SAT I score was W 630 M 680 and V 630, and so even though you say that Emory regards SATs highly, I don't think so in such a huge aspect. I didn't have a hook and I'm still quite surprised that I'm in!

My best advice would be to continue what you're doing and good luck next year!

having been waitlisted at emory last year. I can tell you that they one thing that they really do care about is sat scores. I don't think they really liked my 1790. lol. I also suggest you try visiting
