Chances of getting into GWU for political science

Anyone who has gotten into GWU this year or in the recent pass i would appreciate if you could help me out!

I’m a current GW senior. I was in the Elliott School of International Affairs my first semester, but transferred into the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences.

Elliott was more selective than Columbian for admissions, but now I think you can just apply to the University as a whole and then move into a school later.

I am trying to go for political science and international affairs myself. How was your high school transcript? Where else did you apply?

It was four years ago, but I think my high school GPA was a 3.8. In my senior year, I was taking statistics, AP Biology, AP European history, AP English lit, AP English lang, AP French, and Latin. I had a fair SAT score – 2200, I think.

I applied also to Georgetown, Vassar, University of Richmond, William & Mary, Claremont McKenna, Connecticut College, and UMaine.

The best piece of advice I could give you is to have a really good answer prepared for the “Why GW” question. A lot of applicants will give a generic response about being in Washington, DC. Take some time to research possible organizations in DC that you’d like to work with, or particular professors in the poli sci/iaff departments whose research you find interesting. If you have decent scores, well-rounded ECs, and an excellent answer to the “Why GW” question, you should be in a good position.
