Hi!! My daugther has about a 3.2 unweighted gpa and a 29 on her act. She has done a sport all 4 years of high school and was on the varsity team the last 2, she was also involved in 4 extra curricular activities. She has 50 hours of volunteering and did dance for about 8 years outside of school. She did get a D on her transcript freshman year from an AP course, will that take any affect. She has taken about 7 AP classes excluding the one she got a D in, and got about a 3-4 on the AP exams. She wants to major in business. Will she make it into Indiana University Bloomington(she really wants to go there)? If not, what other colleges will accept these scores?

A lot of colleges will accept your daughters great credentials . Personally, I think she will be fine with indiana it’s basically a match school. But she won’t get into the Kelly school of business , it’s one of the very selective business schools in the country

I am majoring in business at Kelley so hopefully this will be some help.

There are really two steps into being accepted into IU.
The first is being accepted to the university itself. After that, your file is sent to the Kelley school (The business school) and the people over there decide whether or not to admit you.

What is your daughter’s weighted GPA? The school looks at that, not the unweighted one.

There are 2 different admission choices the business school will give to your daughter: Direct admit and standard admit.

The difference? If she is a direct admit, she is already in the business school.
If she’s a standard admit, she has to excel during her freshman year and apply to the business school in the following spring. This is more difficult for students because if she gets a B- or below in any class, the Kelley school will most likely reject her.

Two other things the business school considers: weighted GPA and ACT score. To be a direct admit, you need a minimum 3.7 GPA and 30 ACT (not sure about SAT bc I didn’t take it).

Also, the good thing about IU is that they superscore. So they’ll take her highest math score from all the ACTs she’s taken, the highest reading, etc, and average them to get a “superscore.”

If she is accepted to IU but has lower than a 3.7 and 30, she won’t get a direct admission.

As for extracurriculars, she’s doing fantastic, so don’t worry about that!

The D will put a damper on things, but since it was freshman year it’s not that big of a deal.

So overall, in my opinion, she’ll get into IU, but she will be a standard admit to Kelley.

Other good business schools: Miami of Ohio, Brigham Young, Ohio State, Michigan State

Hope this helped a little, let me know if you need anything else!
