Chance me at IU Bloomington

Hello.

My son is a junior in an ultra competitive high school in California.
Gpa - 3.6
ACT - 33

He has a summer internship this summer in business and also has required volunteer hours.
His first preference is business major.
Does he have a chance at all to get into IU. And what about as a direct admit to Kelly business school.

thank you

Based on what I have seen, those stats will very likely get an admission to IU, practically certain actually but overconfidence is risky in the college application process. IU essentially does rolling admissions, so apply early and you will likely have an admission decision by November. As far as direct admit, IU publishes on their website the required stats for direct admit to the Kelley business school. Currently that requires a 30 ACT and 3.8 GPA, but that can change in the future. If his 3.6 is an unweighted GPA, but he also has a weighted GPA, IU will consider the higher GPA for direct admit purposes. If he does not have a 3.8 weighted GPA, he can petition for a direct admission, but I do not know the likelihood of success by petition. Good luck!

Has anyone heard rumors of Kelley raising the standard for DA next year

Haven’t heard that but it wouldn’t surprise me

@DG it’s my understanding that it was discussed for this upcoming year (incoming fall 2019 class) but they decided not to. I have to think there’s a good chance that it changes next year. We were told that they were looking at increasing ACT to 31.

wouldn’t surprise me either, agree. thanks

Thank you all!

The standards have increased over the years. So, as in all things Admissions, it’s anybody’s guess. I saw two individuals post to CC recently that they received notice of DA to Kelley yet were missing the mark on one of the two pre-requisites and did not go through the petition process. This has been an unprecedented year of issues and uncertainty due to the mold outbreak. Your best bet is to call and speak directly with a Kelley advisor for up to date info. at the time you are applying. Best of luck! Seems like you will find success wherever you land!

Thanks! I think they should consider raising the requirements to ensure they keep their rankings.
