Chances of getting into Penn State University Park

Hello, so I applied to Penn State and really want to get into main campus. I wanted to know my chances of getting in.

  • I have a 106.445 weighted gpa (my school does gpa different).
  • I have taken 4 AP classes and 10 honors. This year I am taking 4 AP classes and 1 honors course. Mostly A student with the one or two Bs a year.
  • My SAT is a 1300.

I want to go for liberal arts—specifically psychology. I applied early action and said summer start. Do you guys think I have a shot? Please let me know because I am so nervous.

Yes, you are 99% sure in. :+1:
Apply to Schreyer.

No SAT/ACT
GPA 3.98
4 Dual enrollment courses
4 AP Courses
5 Honors Courses
Mostly As through HS, few Bs and only1 C ever
Thoughts on getting in to Liberal Arts College?
Applied for Summer of 2022

What major?
What class did you get a C in?
I think your odds are good unless your C relates to your chosen major.

C in Algebra II during Covid closure
Psychology Major

All As in AP Classes and currently all As in Dual Enrollment classes

Did you take AP Bio? AP Psych? (or DE equivalent)?
If you’re getting A’s in those, you’re in. :+1:
Ask to join Paterno Fellows: you get to take classes with Schreyer scholars (no TA’s but top profs for the English/CAS seminars all freshmen take, plus smaller, more interactive Psych intro psych class, often with experiential component!) then join Schreyer if you do well.

I have been accepted at Indiana University, University of Arizona, University of Oklahoma, University of Alabama, University of Mississippi, Arizona State but Penn State is my #1 choice

:+1:
Are they all affordable? If you’re not sure, check with your parents.
Are you instate or OOS?
What do you like about Penn State?

Penn State has this cool feature with Paterno Fellows: you declare yourself an aspirant. You’re in based on your motivation, then you have one year not to be kicked out and if you make it, you’re in Schreyer, top 5 Honors College in the country.

I am from New York and looking primarily at out of state schools. One things I liked most about Penn State was the way I felt on campus, like I belonged. The academics are above reproach and outstanding research opportunities. I just returned from visiting Indiana, while a beautiful school, I did not find the students as welcoming but the academics are fantastic and I was a direct admit to the college and major of my choice.

I definitely will look into the Paterno Fellows and discuss it at my virtual meeting with the College of Liberal Arts.

Could I have more info on this? I would definitely be interested! Also what do you think my chances are for Liberal Arts:

  • I have a 106.445 weighted gpa (my school does gpa different).
  • I have taken 4 AP classes and 10 honors. This year I am taking 4 AP classes and 1 honors course. Mostly A student with the one or two Bs a year.

Thank you!

Make sure to apply to Bing in order to have an affordable safety. Geneseo, New Paltz, or Albany if you want another one.

Penn State is very expensive. Make sure your parents can afford it, either from income or from savings (or both!) Do you know your EFC? If it’s 50K or higher, you’re good. If you don’t know your EFC, look up “FAFSA4Caster”.

Appreciate the feedback. I know college is expensive and my parents would not have allowed me to apply anywhere that we could not afford to send me as my goal is to leave college with minimal debt. Yes, I have applied for FAFSA, know our EFC, and luckily my parents have had a 529 for me before I was even born. I know college can be just as much a financial decision as an academic one.

 :+1: your parents were ahead of the game. *
I think you’re highly likely to get into PSU and DO look into Paterno Fellows (and being an Aspirant your 1st year).
