I am a senior in High School, and I just went up to Skidmore's open house today. I fell in love with the school, and am highly considering applying early decision now that I saw the campus. I was wondering what my chances were of getting into the school. I have a 93.5 gpa (weighted), and a 92.5 gpa (unweighted)...My school only shows the weighted average on the transcript they give us. I also have a 29 on the ACT, however, the dean of admissions told us today that they do superscore the ACT, which would give me a 31. I also am very involved in my High School's theater arts club. I perform in many of the plays at my school, and was just pointing that out there because they consider artistic talent as a factor. My only worry is that I am applying for financial aid, and I am nervous that they might not accept me for that reason. I am also a little nervous because I feel like my course load may not be rigorous enough. Freshman and sophomore year I took many AP/Honors classes. Unfortunately, last year I went through many emotional issues, and I could not keep up with all the hard classes. I did manage to get straight As in my regular classes however, as well as in my 1 college level precalculus class. This year I am in 2 AP classes, and one Syracuse University college credit class. Thank you for reading all of this and I appreciate your feedback!

My son is currently a freshman at Skidmore, scored 29 on his ACT…

Thank you…I’m not concerned about my ACT score…i’m just concerned about them not accepting me because I would need financial aid, and because I didn’t have a rigorous course load last year as a junior because I was experiencing some emotional difficulties.

I can see why you fell in love with Skidmore, my son did too! It’s a great school with an average grant of over $36,000 a year…go for it, you’ll never know unless you try!

Thank you :)…Now I just have to make the big decision of whether or not to apply early decision

It certainly sounds like a “target” school for you. Good luck!

If Skidmore is your No. 1 choice your best shot at being accepted is to apply early decision. The financial aid pot is largest at that point too. Early decision is the best strategy when you absolutely have a first choice, no matter what school you’re targeting. (almost 80 percent of the kids in my daughter’s high school senior class applied early admission to their favorite schools because it gave them the best chance to be accepted, and most of them were). As I recall, Skidmore has early decision 1, which I think is in Nov., and early decision 2 in January. I’d go for 1 if Skidmore is your first choice, and 2 if it’s your second choice (gives you the chance to apply to your first choice in Nov., and if you don’t get in to apply E2 to Skidmore. Don’t let financial aid concerns slow you down. Plenty of kids at Skidmore are on financial aid, including my daughter who also works 10-12 hours a week on campus. She LOVES Skidmore, the school fits her like a glove and she instinctively knew that from her first campus visit. Go with your gut. Good luck!

I’m definitely applying early!! I really hope I get in though.

Thanks guys! I really want to apply early, but my parents are a bit hesitant about it. The problem is the deadline is coming up soon, so I have to convince them to let me.

I am also interested in my chances of being admitted there. I really love the school, but I have a critical reading score of 550 that scares me a lot. However, my toefl result is satisfactory: above 100 (103 actually), and my writing is above fairly above 600. I even took maths level 2 as a sat subject 2 and got a score of 800! Overall, what do you think about my chances? I also have some extracurricular activities and received awards in a few science competitions.
