I was wondering if anyone could give me any insight. I know my SAT scores are holding me back...especially math.

Academic weighted GPA 3.85
SAT: Critical Reading 620, Writing 590, Math 500 :(
I have 6 AP classes under my belt including my senior year. I passed the AP World and US exams in the same year.

EC's: Band and Drunline 9-12

California Scholarship Federation (CSF) 10-12

AP Club 11-12 (VP)

Swimming 10-12

Leadership 12 (Senior Class Treasurer)

Community Service: Tutoring (20 hours)

I am finished with my UC apps but have not submitted them yet. Through word of mouth, I have heard it is better to initially select a non-impacted major then change it when you get into the college of your choice. Is this true?

Your SAT score is not holding you back (only a little bit). It is your GPA that is holding you back. If you only have a 3.85 weighted GPA, you will not be accepted by any of the schools on your list.

UC Riverside’s Guaranteed Admission Program requires a 3.9 weighted GPA and a 1600 SAT score. Your SAT score meets UCR’s GAP requirement, but your GPA does not.

My cousin got into UC Berkeley with a 3.6 and 1800 SAT score…and I have many friends who got into UCD with about the same GPA and SAT scores as me and they did not have the EC’s that I have at all.

The UCs are becoming more and more selective. If your cousin or friends got in, they probably applied several years ago. If they got in recently, screw them for taking my spot.

3.66 unweighted, 4.29 weighted, 4.00 capped UC GPA. 2300 SAT score. Rejected by UCB, UCLA, UCSD, and CPSLO. Waitlisted by UCD and UCI.

I agree with above posters, if your GPA is 3.85 weighted, you are below the average GPA for all the schools listed which for UCLA is a 4.2 and UCSD/UCB/UCI and USC is 4.0+ weighted along with a less than competitive SAT.
I hope you have other schools are your list such as UCR and UCSC and some Cal states if in-state.

UCLA/USC/UCSD: Reach
UCI/UCD/UCSB: Low Reach

Also changing majors, can be difficult in some schools especially if you are interested in Engineering. I know that if you are not accepted into the Engineering program especially ME at UCSB, it is very difficult to switch.

Well thanks for the input. I was thinking about putting undeclared/social sciences as my major. I’m deciding between PoliSci, History, and Econ.
