Chances of getting into UNC Chapel Hill?

My current GPA is 4.0 (unweighted) and 4.1 (weighted). My composite ACT score is a 30 right now, but I’m working on increasing it and believe I could get it up to a 31 or a 32. In my first three years of high school I took 2 honors courses, and in my final year I’ll be taking 2 AP courses. I have a lot of creative arts extracurriculars. I’ve been in band all four years (and have a position on the leadership team), as well as choir for two years. I’m in National Honor Society, German Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. Every summer I’ve done lots of volunteer work. My high school is somewhat prestigious so my class rank is only 103/459, putting me in the top 25%. I’m also from Alabama, so I’ll be applying from out of state. I have family members living in Chapel Hill but I’m not sure if that has any affect on the admissions process. If anyone has any special insight into the UNC admissions process and could let me know what my chances are/what I could do to improve my chances, it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Your GPA and ACT is on par with UNC.

I did not apply to UNC, but my friend did (with similar stats as you), but she wrote a horrendous essay (her words, not mine), and was rejected. So, don’t think about stuff you should do to get into a particular college; think about your strengths already and play off those in an essay.

Do what you love. Doing an activity/whatever for the sake of college won’t necessarily help you get admitted.
