Chances of Getting of Waitlist?

Wake is my top choice, but I want to know my realistic chances of being accepted off the waitlist. I had just applied and not shown any interest (which apparently is big at WFU). So in addition to reassuring Wake they are my top choice, visiting and sending additional information what should I do to improve my chances and realistically what are those chances?

Last night I had a dream. In it one of the admissions people at wake called me and told me I got off the waiting list. It was the happiest feeling ever (in my dream) until I woke up and realized my chances were slim to none. So Shakeright, for now pick a different school, preferably your 2nd choice and plan on going there, because getting off of wake's waiting list is next to impossible.

They normally only take 20-30, but no one got off of it last year and the year before, I heard 8 got off of it.

they took people off the waitlist two years ago, I know that for a fact because my friend's roommate was waitlisted. However the number was low, like 15-20 ppl she told me. Have no idea about last year.
Please know its not the end of the world if you get waitlisted! Wake was actually my second choice (I got waitlisted at my number one ) and now I loooove Wake. College is what you make of it! It really is.

Thanks I know it's a long shot but if I have my guidance counselor call will that help? I talked to current student who told me that last year her friend's roommate got off waitlist so I'm not sure why everyone says they took no one last year

They told me and my counselor that no one was going to be moved off the wait list. I even had friends of my parents who know President Hatch, and he said the Admissions department was not moving anyone off the wait list. Your friend must be mistaken. I am 99% sure no one got off of it. They told everyone that on these forums last year. They had a record 1300 students commit to going there.

It's better you write them. Your counselor really can't do anything for you.

Ok well maybe he wasa wrong, I am just writing them my letter now. My counselor is actuall fairly amazing she is well know by every admissions office and has been know to be able to get kids in off ivy waitlists when their grades were great

Good luck. My counselor worked for Wake for a number of years in their admissions office. She called many times but she couldn't pull any strings as they accepted no one.

That's what I'm worried about

yea, don't even bother, with the uncertainty of college admissions this year, don't even waste your time on the wait list. Just pay your deposit at your second choice school and move on. Try transferring to wake if you want to after freshman year. That may prove to be easier.

Jeez you applied to a lot of schools lol. Good luck, I'm on the waitlist too. I heard no one got off it last year either, but didn't the admissions letter say about 20% average get off it? That seems like a lot, but I guess that didn't happen in recent years.

ahduke, are/did you apply to transfer to WFU?

I did apply as a transfer to Wake from UNC. I have no idea whether they'll even be taking them. They did not admit anyone for Spring Semester 2008.

Good luck! I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Yea, economically, transfers are lower priorities. Always better to get a paying 4 year student than a paying 2 or 3 year person, even if they're wonderful. The top places take very few transfers generally for that reason.

I'm waitlisted too! sniff
Do you guys think calling the admission office for a telephone interview will help?
How many ppl did Wake put on waitlist this year?

Well I am actually going to go down for an interview just because I want to see the campus again but what I heard is they witlisted like 900 and about 200-300 accepted

Where did you hear this from??? I though the number was much smaller..

STEF2098, I think it's 200-300 accepted their places on waitlist not the number of ppl finally got accpeted.

Ooohhhhh I got ya! ;)
