Waitlist

Has anyone on the waitlist heard yet?

I have 4 to 5 classmates in the waiting list.....nadda. I think it's June 30. But good luck!

If you're getting off the waitlist, you should hear from them around May 15.

Hey everyone! I got a message yesterday from WFU admissions asking me to call them back. I did, and they said that I was one of a handfull of students that was admitted from the waitlist! I live in California. YAY! I'm so happy!

congrats! i love cali!

Reveilleforet, are you definitely going to go? :)

Muchos congratulations!

thanks! I haven't really decided yet if I'm definately going...I sent my enrollment deposit to Boston College, and am still a little unsure of where I want to end up. I think that right now, though, I'm really leaning towards Wake Forest!

yes its a better school

congrats reveilleforest! i hope you decide to come to wake.

The only thing that is stopping me from being 100% certain about Wake is the (so I've heard) really intense competition/academics. Is grade deflation really that big of a thing at Wake? Also, how is the city?

Seriously, I think the grades just depend on the person. If you're willing to put in work, you shouldn't do worse than a 3.3 (B+'s across the board). I've seen 3.8s, 3.7s so it is not impossible. However, if you're not "academically inclined," just coming over for the greek scene, didn't attend that good a high school, etcetera, you might have a couple of problems.

The city... well, it is what you make of it :). I've lived here for about 6 years, and I'm fine with it. W-S is not precisely known as a college town.

emsibdn- What do you mean by that good of a highschool? I worry because the highschool my son goes to is just o.k.- average SAT only around 1020- (He is much higher) He will have comleted 5 APs and almost all honors(except Spanish and Math). The faculty (some of them) are "lazy"- they don't mind that the kids are not agressive about learning. Some of the teachers are great! Last year, 1 each went to Dartmouth, Johns Hopkins and Duke. Does this sound like a lame highschool? Any opinions appreciated. I know it depends on the student, but can it be a terrible experience for a student who worked hard in a mediocre highschool?

njmom - don't worry about what other kids in the school did. If your son is willing to put in the work here and there, then he should be fine. I don't expect a 4.0 in too many classes (if any), but I think with some work I can maintain a decent GPA. Personally, I was rather lazy in some high school courses because I didn't need to work to hard - but in others (such as calculus AP, biology H, and french AP), I had to work every night. Not to sound cliche, but college is what you make of it - and Wake can be made into a lot =X

Thanks,Decisions05-Your kind words are reassuring- my son has a big smile on his face! Best of luck at Wake!

I got a phone call today from the admissions office saying that I'm in

Precisely, Decison. For example, my freshman year roommate comes from a very good school (nationally recognized) and has a good work ethic (a lot of sports, A- and As across the board). If your son went to a mediocre school, he will be at a slight disadvantage (not only if he goes to Wake, pretty much anywhere).

This being said, don't put much stock in determining your son's success based on where he went to school. If ye raised thee son good, if your son loves to learn, has a good work ethic, should be more than fine for Wake Forest (or pretty much any other school).

Unless you SOLELY got in because you were a legacy or for some other reason, Wake, by admitting your son, is saying they are 100% confident that your son can succeed at Wake.

If he chooses to attend Wake, he will most likely have to put in a bit of extra work than he would otherwise have had to put in at a less academically rigorous school. Choose to attend a school that matches how much you want to learn, not how much work you have to put in.

ALMOST forgot

Congrats college05864!

i just got off the waitlist yesterday...i didnt think i was going to and now im struggling to decide between wake and lehigh...wake was my first choice but after being waitlisted i kindof had my doubts...i feel more comfortable with lehigh but i also think i should take advantage of this opportunity...any thoughts? im very confused

I think Wake Forest is by far the better choice, in terms of reputation, resources, and overall atmosphere and quality of education.
