From what I understand not everyone is offered CAP/PACE after applying to UT Austin. I will not sugar coat things I am an average student with a GPA of. 3.5 (rank 37%) , SAT: 1550 and ACT :22
I have No AP’s since I am an immigrant and only moved to america my last year in highschool. should’ve asked if i I could get into AP classes but I didnt know they existed. no ones fault but mine I know. I already graduated high school last year and working full time to support my family so my grades are set.
And yes I did ask the admission officers if I am considered an instate student , the answer is yes if that helps any.
I know for a fact that I will not be admitted straight into UT but I’m willing to go through CAP/PACE for a year (preferably PACE).
Thanks everyone

Pages 32 and 33 of this document state-
“Applicants who are Texas residents are either admitted, “cascaded” to their second choice of major, offered Pathway to Admission through Co-Enrollment (PACE) or to the Coordinated Admission Program (CAP) at a UT System component school. Thus, Texas residents submitting a completed entering freshman application by published deadlines are never permanently denied admission to UT Austin. All non-residents compete with one another in accordance with the routine described above and are either admitted or denied.”
“Texas residents not offered admission are offered an opportunity to participate in Pathways to Admission through Co-Enrollment (PACE) or to the Coordinated Admissions Program (CAP). PACE is a new program initiated in 2013, offering coenrollment opportunities for Top 10% applicants not offered admission under SB175. CAP offers conditional admission as a transfer student after the completion of 30 semester hours on a participating UT System campus.”
So if you are a Texas resident and you apply as a freshman (not a transfer) you should at least get CAP. I have been to,d in this forum that PACE has been opened to those outside the top 10 percent since this document was published.
thanks for stopping by to reply,
I cant seem to get the link working, I tried going through the website to find it manually but can’t seem to find the exact document (I got as far as “documents by institutes then Nada”) I’ll try to find it later when I’m off of work.
Anyway from what I can infer from this is that EVERYONE gets offered CAP but only a few promising students (who have better scores than me) are offered PACE. am I understanding this right?
Sorry about that! Based on the document you would not qualify for PACE. It is dated so that may have changed based on reports here. But you should be offered CAP as long as you are still considered a freshman.
Hi!
I’m a CAP student myself at UT Tyler. I know what it means to move to America and not have the strongest academic background. ~25% of freshman applicants get offered CAP. Your stats should be good enough to be offered CAP. If you are offered CAP and choose to complete it, I can always answer any questions about being a CAP student. Good Luck and Hook 'Em Horns!
@gettingschooled thanks for all your help man, I really appreciate it! Cheers!
@calacmul CAP does sound a good fit for me (and probably my only choice to be a longhorn). I’ll probably retake the ACT since I didnt really study for either And i’d like to aim for some scholarships while Im doing my applications.
Its good to find someone who understands what it’s like to be in the position I’m in. It’s very difficult to me to move to another country and become an average student all of a sudden. A 3.5 back in my village would have been very desirable to some of the top schools but I digress. No more what if’s or what not, onwards I go from here. Thanks for you help.
